Is it worth Baking Skates for a 7 Year Old

Recommended Posts

I have a nephew who I just bought a new (discontinued) pair of 652 tacks, which I know will fit his foot properly. But, is it really worth heat fitting skates for a kid that young or will they notice the difference in comfort/performance at that age? Thanks

I would think that a kid that old would be able to know if the skates hurt or were comfortable. I am not sure about performance, but if baking will make them feel better and therefore give him a better attitude about skating it is a good thing.

baking a skate helps break them in easier and really ensure a good fit.

baking is usually free anyways, it just takes about 20 - 30 mins of sitting time at the store.

Not necessarily -

When you bake a skate, you are essentially expanding the skate. You're already giving him growing room in the skate, baking is going to make that a bit bigger.

baking makes the skate fit to your foot better but doesn't really help with breaking the boot into how it flexs while you skate.

most shops charge you to bake skates if you don't buy them there.

I used 652's for quite a while and never baked them. Have him skate in them first to see if he even needs it.

What I usually tell customers is to not bake the skate. Once they fit true to size, bake them then, and they should get a little more life out of the skate.

I have an 8 year old that skates in 9k pumps never baked and has never had skate problems or complained about discomfort even when he was wearing vapors at 6.

I decided to try this myself as I just switched skates from CCM Pro Tacks to Graff 705's. I did not bake the skates just put my custom profile on them and laced them up. I had no problems at all. Is baking skates all that it is cracked up to be? What happened to just skating in them to break them in?

you go get a pair of z-air comp se's (proven to be the stiffest skate ever) and try to break them in without baking. haha i skated in them for 2 years without baking and the eyelets never even wrapped around my feet at all.

baking is wonderful. i think it's the most therapeutic thing i've ever done to my feet. id just walked across the golden gate bridge, and then just sitting there for 20 minutes with my feet cradled in warm, silky smooth clarino, conforming to every little curve........ahhhhhhhh :D lovely lovely

If I were wealthy, I would buy a new pair of skates every day just to have them baked and put on my feet. :)
