Finally..... FINALLY, there is ice back in germany.

So week after week all the ice rinks here in my area start to get ice and it makes me very happy. Yesterday it was the first time for this (upcoming) season and im very siked. The ice was very hard and almost unskateable, but actually it did not matter to me. I was invited for a practice with a friends team and there was an open session before practice so i went on the ice and actually it was a good decision because the first steps are always wobbly and kind of weird.

Today there is another practice and i will go there again. A bit annoying that this very rink is about 35 miles from my home but im a hockeynerd so i dont care how long the drive is! My local rink gets opened in mid september (which is VERY ridiculous).

So, did your season start or do you still have to suffer? Give us some impressions and words, we need to keep the spirit alive (sounds kinda too depressing but yeah).

Edit:

Season is from August til March (In some areas late April).

Our rink has been closed since late June. There was a story aired on the local TV station that it wasn't going to re-open at all (it's been struggling since it was opened) but yesterday I found out that the local youth hockey organization is going to take over management and we should be back on the ice by the end of the week.

Today I'm going down to help with some renovations and repairs and I'm glad to do it!

Happy times!

I hope we can get on the ice next weekend. There is ice on one of your rinks. The nationalteam have practiced here this week. There is a hockey camp in the comming week fore the juniors and they are making the ice in the second rink. So hopefully we are set to go in the weekend. I am realy looking forward to it.

I talk to a guy i know that works in a LHS in another city and they had hockey camp this week. He sayed it was cracy how every one want new gear this year. He never had this much to do.

And i get a chance to see if my new ops is any good...

Sounds neat. I think there isnt anything worse than the local rink being closed.

I know the feeling...

Did you open your LHS?

Just curious, are you guys gonna do anything with the gravel pit? You could fund raise some and it would be sweet to have a net out there for people to shoot on before they got on the ice.

What part of Germany are you from? I played for Erfurt Black Dragons Jr squad and I'm attending next seasons Ger. 1 camp, It would be a dream of mine to then make a DEL team, but anyway yeah. I lived in Erfurt and Ronne about 15-20 mins outside of Keil.

I head back to Ronne at the end of september, Would you be interested in maybe skating with me if you aren't too far away?

By the way, whats the name of your local rink?

Im from Herne (NRW), so we are actually not that close to each other. I would love to but i dont think its possible.. What a bummer. Good luck on your road to the DEL, keep the dream alive and somehow anything is possible. For example Duisburg picked up several Oberliga players, so the chance is still there ;)

We have 2 rinks here in town, they put the ice down in one over the last couple of days for the upcoming figure skating and hockey schools, we're supposed to have a game in the next couple of days. The ice isn't going down in the other one until the end of the month, which is unfortunate because that one always has better ice....I'm super pumped though, seems like it's been years since I've been on the ice.

There's a town about a hour from here with a nice facility, they're putting the ice down there this coming week as well...so I might get a call for a couple games out there.

If it weren't for softball I would've gone mad weeks ago, haha. :P

Have practice on Tuesday. The last time I skated was about a month ago so its not going to be too bad. The only thing that is going to suck is that for the first week the ice is going to be very thin.
