Pavarotti dies

Recommended Posts

Pavarotti's version of Nessum Dorma defined the 1990 world cup for anyone in Europe. I'm not sure it was the same out here, but when I hear that song, I think of Irelands first qualifying for a world cup ever. I remeber how they described how they got out of their group (they drew all three matches, but still made it out). Ireland drew 1-1 with England, they got beat 0-0 by Egypt, and they beat the Netherlands 1-1

I remember Gazza crying when he got the yellow against Germany, I remember Packie Bonnar saving the 5th penalty against Romania, and David O'Leary sinking his to put Ireland into the Quarter finals.

I remember Toto Scillatchi (sp) getting a cheap open net rebound goal against Ireland to put them out.

I remember the party in the streets after Ireland got beat, as if we won the whole thing.

All from that rendition by that man.

RIP Pavarotti

We Germans also love to think back to the 1990 World Cup :P

Kinda sad to hear that Pavarotti died. RIP!

I have a fondness in my heart from that. It was West Germany that made Gazza cry in 1990. He picked up his second yellow against them in the semis.

HAHA GAZZA,

He's one of those Pop Culture characters who goes way beyond his genre. I couldn't pick a good operatic from a bad operatic performance, but I know who Pavarotti is.
