Radius Corner butt ends

Recommended Posts

My LHS had to take a standard box one and shave it to correctly match.

The wood was rough, but I sanded it, taped it and can't tell the difference. I did end up sanding some of the paint on the top 1/2" shaft, but it didn't matter.

Made the cleanest fuse point when I was done, too.

TPS ones are pretty close, don't know if they sell separately though.

What REALLY sucks is whittling down the tenon of a butt end to fit in an intermediate shaft.

You're just talking about a standard extension with rounded edges instead of squared, right? I didn't know that these were hard to find. I have tons of them. I order the 8" ones from ProGuard.

those are nice, too. the shape of it doesn't bother me. i have a TPS shaft that won't take standard extensions, and am guessing this is what i need. i was hoping i wouldn't have to shave a standard end to fit in, damn.

OK, if you are talking about the part of the extension that is inserted into the shaft then yes, I have to shave those down as well. I just use a wood rasp and it gets the job done quickly and easily. It's even more effective if you heat it a little first. Like a hot knife through butter...

I had it done for my Montreal 8500 which has a oval interior to the shaft instead of a box.

The guy at my LHS wasn't thrilled to say the least, but they still only charged me the $3.50 (butt-end plus installation, cleanup, cut to length and corner matching)

Another store charges $3 for them and will only install. They leave glue everywhere, don't cut it for you, won't custom fit it to match the shaft profile.

That's just a common courtesy thing to do. It's takes hardly any extra effort and goes a long way. If I saw that my guys were giving back sticks with glue and such dripping off everywhere, I'd be less than pleased.
