Seeing as this league is classed as a "professional" league, I was curious as to how much players were getting payed, if at all, or is free flights and accomodation about it?

Some teams have everything paid for, some part paid for, and some you pay all. Almost every team has fundraisers to help you out. Nobody gets paid though.

Ya I guess you could say that, its true in the fact that no one gets paid (thats not out in the open and behind closed doors, but thats not the issue were discussing). Although most of the best roller hockey players out there participate in PIHA, and the league is working on expanding into that area.

I'd say the guys don't get paid because roller hockey isn't that popular of a sport. Some evidence of that are the bleachers, or where ever the rink has to watch the games. It's not that big, at all.

But in the upcoming season of Major League Roller Hockey they have stated that there players will be paid. As for seating it depends on the rink. Yes most rinks have just bleachers but for example the Tour Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado has stadium seating.

My understanding is that PIHA is kind of like a huge tournament... I'm fairly certain the league champions split a purse of something like ~10K...

yes there is a cash prize for winning the league championship. last year in addition to that, division and conference winners also received cash payouts... i think it would be a stretch to call it a huge tournament but if that's how you see it...

I think MLRH has a new man at the top now and they are aiming for a paid pro league Summer 2008. They have a deal with an internet TV network for games to be shown also. It's not ESPN but at leats a start.

They are running in summer to attract minor league pro ice guys, as well as inline players and hope to use the minor league ice facilities "off Season" to attract those towns ice fans to watch some summer hockey I think, and then hope that will raise the profile? Like RHI used to do, but not go crazy with 15,000 seater areanas.

I may be not be 100% on some of the above, but it seems to me a good way to get some fans to inline games/enable ice guys to keep earning in the summer/get some inline guys some $$$ for playing. Nothing is proven until it hits the floor I guess?

all of this information is correct. however the problem will arise when MLRH attracts only minor ice players and no true inline players because of the summer tournament series that already dominate the sport. i'm not really sure if you can stretch the same market for minor league ice hockey through the summer as well... other than that it's probably not a bad plan... that and the track record that goes with the name MLRH...
