which skate

Recommended Posts

I have a wide foot and the models that fit the best are rbk and grafs. I've only been playing for a couple years so am I in no way a great skater, but I am kinda fast for my skill level. Last year my friend gave me a new pair of one90's and they were way to stiff. Any sugestions as to which skates would give me the best play?

if you fit best into grafs, then look into the supra line. they are a quality skate, but arent cast like stiff, yet still supportive. but ill say what everyone else is going to just to get it out of the way, go try on a ton of skates and go with what one fits your foot correctly, then focus on the flex of the boot.

you'll likely be looking for something in the middle-top of the line, if you're a quick skater but still need a little work. it's tough to point you towards one particular skate, because you've gotta factor in things like your weight, the amount of icetime you'll be logging, and the specific areas WHERE your foot is wide (midfoot, forefoot, heel, toes).

Look for a discount buy on something in the 852 Tacks range - wide fit, no insanely stiff, and a good price. Like the others have said - the ice-time you'll log will be a major factor, since it will determine how quickly you'll break in and wear down the skate.

if you're a little wider in the forefoot and toes, then stay the hell away from Easton, as well as any friggin' Mission skate other than the 120XP (IMO, anyway). if you can't get your hands on pair of old 852, 992 or 1052 CCM Tacks from years past, then I would consider going towards the RBK 7K, which will be *slightly* heavier but softer than the top-end 9K. If you're tight on a budget and wouldn't mind picking up another pair in 8-10 months, give the 5K a try. The CCM Vector line may accomodate your feet, but there's a chance you may have to punch or stretch out the forefoot. Between the two NBH lines, I think the Supreme line should accomodate you a little better than the Vapor line, so the Supreme70, or even the Supreme50 may be a decent bet. Once again, it depends on your level of play, and whether or not weight and price are a concern.

best of luck!

Agreed on the Vectors - and even with the punch it may be tight - I had E and they fit pretty tight - like a W Graf 735. The V6.0 is a good skate for the cash. Good call on the Missions and Eastons.
