Which to get, Vapors or Supreme Skates?

Recommended Posts

Alright guys, time to step up and get a current skate. Through the years I've skated on nothing but Bauer Supremes. Tried Tacks a few times but didn't like 'em. Anyhow, The last two pairs of skates were both Bauer Supreme 4000s, and the second pair is starting to come apart. For the sake of this thread, I'm not interested in anything but Bauers. Kinda like a Ford/Chevy thing I guess.

I'm 5'11", 220 and skate at a "B" level (whatever that means) least twice a week.

I can spend $300 no problem, and "could" go up to $400, but I'd rather not. I see online stores have the Vapor XXV for $270 "ish", and I figure that's just one model under the XXXX which everyone seems to be diggin. -Truth be told, I haven't ever shopped for "new" skates. I used to literally buy whatever size 9D Bauer Supreme I could afford!!! Now I have to actually do research and I have no idea what the real differences are.

Any help?

Thanks,

Chris

the main difference is fit, the supremes fit differently than the vapors and the supreme 30/50/70 fit differently than the one90.

Of course the supreme 70 and supreme one90 come with the LS2P. And the 30/50 come with the custom+ while the vapors come with the LS2.

If you are used to Supremes and are looking to only spend $300 you might look at Supreme 8090s on sale somewhere. Or maybe Bauer 8000s which are pretty hard to find. Vapors in general fit a little more narrow and little less volume than a Supreme--though the new XXXXs are supposed to have a little bigger toebox than XXXs. Best thing of course is to try some on at your LHS.

I'd back this up. I just had to choose between Supreme 50s and Vapor XXVs. I found the Supremes were better volume-wise, but the toe box was too narrow. In the end I chose the Vapors, as I liked the feel better.

I would definitely try some on. I had skated on bauers for a few years, and then bought a pair of one90's. hated the way they fit. went back to the vapors and got a pair of vapor xxxx's. the vapors fit very similar to the older vapors. so if you are used to the older vapors, it may be easier to just stick with what your foot is used to.

So it seems that at the end of the day, it's really about fit. ....I plan to try some on at the LHS.

...BGM mentioned the 8090s. I have two guys in my league that also skate 8090s and love 'em, but the only place I can find 'em is online for about $370. Too much to spend without actually put'n 'em on my feet first. Anyone know where to find 'em for a little less?

Thanks guys. B)

The new vapor line fits a little bit wider and the toe cap is bigger which is awesome for me =D. Or as Nikebauer say qucikness or power?? vapor is for the quick feet while the supremem is all about power lol
