Recommended Posts

Just seeing if anyone is going to the tournament in Portland Maine. Also i am wondering if it is just a private school tournament or will there be public school teams there.

My buddy's team went up there last year, they ran the show. Doesn't sound too competitive from what I heard.

I play high school hockey in Maine and it's really not a big tournement, its basically a tournament for High School teams during Christmas break to get some game action.. there are two private schools but its nothing big at all.. There were about 10 high school teams from out of state.

While we're on the topic of HS hockey, can anybody give me some simple facts on Minnesota and Wisconson HS hockey?

Ive been wondering what level of hockey their play is compared to other states leagues. Like do you think that the top level Minnesota and Wisconson teams are AAA caliber? Ive always wanted to play for a Minnesota HS team since hockey there is like football here.

Top end Minnesota HS Hockey is as good as any hockey in the nation. From my personal experience in playing Shattuck, they are within the top 5 teams I have ever played against. They continually compete at Nationals in the U16 and U18 level and generally place in the top 4. If you look at D1 rosters there are plenty of players from Minnesota High Schools who either went straight from HS or played in the USHL.

Also, I played in the Maine Invitational my Junior year of HS and it was not an impressive tournament as we rolled thru competition. We ended the season ranked number 2 in PA, but I was expecting much more quality competition. However, it seems that as someone said earlier it is not a primetime tournament in Maine.

Leo Hayes was in it. I think it goes by division, the quality of teams or whatever, I can't remember. We did fine except for Hoosiac or something like that, they were good.

All Torhs, if you're playing Carmel Gold, they usually put a pretty good team out on the ice. Most of time they are very physical, they aren't a really skilled team from when I played them but they hit often and they usually go for the cheap garbage goals. Since I graduated last year I haven't really got a chance to hear or see teams from around the state but last year I think we went 1-1 against them.

If you get inside their heads, there are a couple guys on the team I think that are seniors this year that have very bad tempers so if you can get to them expect a lot of penalties.

Just curious, what team do you play for?

EDIT: Speaking of Culver, the B team is good. Their A team is usually very good but their B team is very very solid. I played for the Fort Wayne Komets Midget AA and then for Snider High School out of Fort Wayne and we played the Carmels and Culver's many of times. If Culver is like they usually are, be prepared to see a stacked B team. If the A team doesn't have games that weekend they usually send 3 or 4 guys off the A team to play on the B team. Culver is a solid team so if you play them, expect to play a very good puck moving team. They rely on puck control, they don't really play a physical game so if you put the body on them and can get the puck on net and crash the net you have a good chance to win. They are fast and skilled, really no grit IMHO from my past experiences playing them. The A team on another hand is a different story...

Any other questions on teams from Indiana I should be able to help anyone out as I've played pretty much every team here.

Its my high school team.

Normal Community Ironmen. Doubt you've heard of us. We won the titles for the Peoria (CIPHL) and the Springfield title (LLHL). Just looking for some outside competition is all.

Okay here is the run down...

Scarborough- number 2 in the state last year but lost their best player and a couple more they should be a decent team but depending on your teams level i think you can handle them.

Deering-Horrible team, should be a blowout i dont think they have any threats

Winslow- Was second in states for Class B last year, very solid team but i'm not quite sure who they having returning this, so be ready for a good game.

Gorham- one kid by the name of David Gushee, amazing player with lighting quick speed and great hands the team around him is not that impressive but if you remember that name try to contain him.

The A team this year looks very promising, while b has subsided from last year. Jv has gone to the shitter this year. I am currently on the jv team here. Carmel Gold are not very good. Last year as a jv team we beat them. A very scrappy team with stone hands. If memory serves me, they played 4A states last year.
