Fit - 8090 to 8k?

Recommended Posts

I have searched and have found some mixed opinions on the fit similarities between these two skates. I'd a appreciate some clear advice if anyone has some experience, as I may be swapping skates.

I am currently skating on size 9D Bauer 8090's. Honestly, they do not fit all that well - I was in a jam and had a lack of options when I bought them, and I thought I could break them in enough, but I think I'd rather just move on. The boot is great, and if I could find a 9.5E to swap for I'd be in heaven, but such is life.

My previous skates were Vector 6.0, in 9E. The length of these was perfect, the mid foot and toe-box, however, were so tight that I often lost feeling in my foot. The heel was probably a tad wider than I liked, as my foot would pronate in them on hard cross-overs. I have an opportunity to swap with a fellow boarder on here for a pair of new 8k's - a pro model in size 9, with a width around E. Since I profiled my 8090's to be slightly forward pitched with an 11 radius, it is only the last of the boot that concerns me. A definitive answer is impossible, I realise, but is there enough similarity in the fit of these two boots to warrant this change?

Thanks.

They should fit better and considering the RBKs have a on-the-toe boot pitch(compared to NBH) these might be what you're looking for. Of course you're going to want to try them on but it always helps having an idea what you need before going in.

Are they an 11 radius?

Again, unless there are heel lifts built into the boot (or footbed I suppose), how would that be possible? I mean, the holders are the same height front/back. I just never thought about it before so am curious.....

It's just the way your foot sits in the boot. NBH skates put you more on your heels.

I never thought about it until I switched from tacks to vapors and felt like I was going to fall backwards... Did some searching and I was right. Holders are neutral(Prolite/E-pro, LS2) and THC skates are forward, NBH skates are reverse.

That, I was aware of - my 8090's are only around neutral with the forward pitched profile done on the runners, so the boot does have a pretty significant heel-pitch. The problem is I called around and can't seem to find a pair of 9E 8k's at any of the LHS's to try on for a comparisson. It comes down to chance - swap the 8090's that are a bit too tight for a pair of 8k's that might be too big in the ankles and have my foot moving around in the skate.

Did you do anything to fix that or did you just learn to skate on the Bauers?

I tried to learn to use it but coming from a significant forward lean in my goalie skates it was near impossible... especially since I originally felt on my heels with the tacks. On my previous pair of vapors(before replacement) I had a chop job profiling, this pair(two skates in) I am getting a profiling redone by someone that really knows what they're doing.

B-Nads, If I was you I'd try to find any comparable RBK skate in your size to try on. Then if they fit I'd have my LHS order the actual skate you plan on buying in that size.

In that case the 8K:s heel cup will probably by to wide for your liking, since they fit wider than the Vectors in the heel as well as the mid/forefoot.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks.

Next question then - the 8090's have 280mm holders (LS2). Would 280 Pitch3's fit properly?

damn, I should have caught that. That's what I get for skimming the last paragraph, sorry bud.

Hah - no prob, man. You could help me out with my Pitch 3 question though, if you're in the know. A 280mm Mission holder will fit a Bauer that takes 280mm LS2, I assume...
