Kovalev for Tanguay

Recommended Posts

I was reading on Spector that there is talk of a Kovalev-Tanguay deal. Tanguay doesn't like playing for Keenan and suppedly Kovalev does.

I thought Kovelev didn't like Keenan because he would brow-beat him and put him in the Chateau Bow-Wow (JD reference Rangers fans) too easily. Messier was supposedly the buffer between Kovy and Keenan because Mess liked Kovy. Did I hear wrong?

I think this is definitely a rumor.

But this reminds me of when Kovalev was over staying his shift and Keenan had enough. Keenan would not let him change until after about five minutes.

Apparently the rumour was all over the RDS broadcast last night. What, Iron Mike can't get Iggy to take an 8 minute shift?

Kovalev has played very well to start this year...and I thought he'd be safe from trade talk this year...but after reading what he said about how the game ended last night

I could see the trade happening.

I'll take Igy in return of Kovy thank you very much. I personally don't like Tanguay and he seems to be bad karma everywhere he goes. Kovy as been playing very well since the start of the season, I guess that motor bike accident cleared his head a bit. But personally I like Kovy alot more than Tanguay.

Kovalev and Carbonneau definetly don't like each other and Kovalev's attitude is questionable. After the lost against Florida because of a late 3rd period goal, Kovalev was frustrated:

"In the last two minutes, we knew they were going to put a lot of pressure on us," Kovalev told the TEAM 990 in Montreal. "It was just my idea that we could have taken a timeout, get organized and get the right people on the ice. Maybe it could have been better. That's what I saw from the bench."
How can you publicly blame your coach like that? I don't know what to think:

a) Kovalev was just giving his opinion, no offense intended.

B) Kovalev withdraws a malicious pleasure to give juicy subjects to Mtl medias

c) Kovalev hates his coach, is tired of Montreal and will leave his GM no choice to trade him.

d) ?

BTW, Carbo's reply was "Yea, that's real easy to say afterwards."

And about Tanguay, i'm not convinced either.

Oh, and remember that russian article where Kovalev said Carbo hates the Russians, etc? I like Kovalev but i think he should just shut up and play well.

Edit: Nice comment i found on TSN.ca reflecting my opinion:

Although I am a huge fan of Kovalev, who when he feels like it, is a top 5 player, this is a stupid move any way you slice it. 5 games into the season, you go public and second-guess your coach. This from a player who is known to take shifts and in some cases, whole games off. Does the term "shut up and play" mean anything. He scores a goal and all of a sudden he feels it's his place to sound off about strategy. No wonder he doesn't wear the C.

Well for once, I think Kovy was right yesterday, since the start of the season I was starting to second guess Carbo's decisions. Who would put a 4rth line up on the PP?? I liked Carbo ever since he was a player and I always thought he would be an awesome coach, but he has been making weird decisions this year.

Denz, i totally agree with you. However, the question is not if Kovalev is right or wrong it's about why he publicly told about it, why he felt like "starting shit" instead of going with the typical "we played well and gave a bad goal" comment. You know the Montreal medias don't you? Comments like those make them really happy and excited.

Well, I think Kovy is playing with emotion right now, and he was pissed that they lost yesterday. That is why he said it like that to the public. He knows he played well, he knows they deserved to win and he also believes that Guy should have taken a time out. Let's just hope he plays with that emotion for the rest of the year, so far he as actually doing his job. He is even backchecking for god sakes!

carbonneau is the worst coach the habs have ever had....how can you change your lines game to game, and call your players out in the media. Not every player can coach, and he is an example

There are a few very valid points here. I am also no fan of Carbonneau and his coaching style. That being said, Kovy needs to put up some better numbers and show more consitency before he can run his mouth like that - who does he think he is??? If he would play every night with all the talent he has at his disposal then I would back him 100%, but he doesn't. By the way, it was also pointed out that there were no whistles in the last 2:14 of the game. The Habs should not have had to worry about a lest second goal the way they handled the Panthers...maybe if Kovy would put more effort into finishing the goals and less into running his mouth they would have walked away with their points last night.

By the way, that Kovy/Tanguay rumour was circulating last March too - there is nothing new there, but I hope it doesn't happen.

It doesn't take a timeout to figure out that he had the wrong players on the ice, you don't need a timeout to send out Chipchura and Dandenault when you have vetrans like Kovy and Koviu on the bench. You can make changes on the fly which is what he did he just sent out the wrong players like Kovy said

Are you guys actually arguing that he should have put Kovalev out there for the last shift of the game?

Ha, I don't Kovalev himself said that he should have been out there. I do think he said "the right guys", himself obviously not being a right guy with less than a minute left and a one goal lead.

He had another strong game tonight. He is actually battling for pucks...not floating and waiting for it like he did a lot of the time last year.

The PP that tied the game (briefly) ran through him. It was a thing of beauty to see.

2-2-2 and with the way the NE is right now...they really haven't lost much ground. The only team playing really well is Ottawa.

I hope they keep him...he's finally playing like everyone has said he can.

How the hell is the guy bad karma? He scored two goals in game seven when the Avs beat Jersey for the cup 3-1 a few years ago.

he has a bad habit of turning over pucks at key points in the game at the most inoporatune moments leading to scoring chances.

As an example, they were saying the other day. On the first lost of the season, he ditched all his teammates who had an after "game reunion" to simply go back home. You for sure do not get the respect is you simply want to go home if they all go somewhere. And bad by bad karma, I really meant bad attitude that after a while affects the team. Not bad karma in the sense of never winning.

i hope this never happens. I love kovy in montreal. Keenan believes in high impact hockey, and kovalev has never thrown a hit

Kovalev has never thrown a hit? This is just one that I remember (granted, it was not exactly within the rules):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oske4tFFmA

Kovalev is a badass. Lazy. But a badass.

Ah, I'd forgotten how much I love people's reaction to that hit. Its great that Kovy does that to Tucker because he is just doing everyone a favor. But when Tucker does something 1/10th as dirty, he is a disgrace to the game.
