Which Glove has best Thumb Protection

Recommended Posts

Caught a puck on the backhand, right on the back of the first knuckle today while hugging the post. Wasn't bad, but it still kinda hurts. Just wondering what model has the best padding on the backhand thumb area? I'm currently using a TPS xi glove. Is there anything I can add to beef up the protection in that spot? I know I should turn my hand Over while doing so, but I'll learn that eventually, esp if this keeps happening.

You could add some additional padding to the area, whether gel or foam. I know plenty of goalies that have their hand that way when hugging the post, they feel that they stay tighter when doing so.

it's not whether you should or shouldn't turn your hand over. don't bother learning if it doesn't feel comfortable to you. I would just advise not to stick your hand outside the post if it's not turned over.

I always kept my glove hand open side facing the slot, and inside the post, filling the hole under my shoulder. I always thought that trying to catch a pass from the corner put me out of position it i missed.

Odds are, you guys are correct, but just thought I'd bring it up, and see if there were any ideas that I haven't thought of, or models I was unaware of.

What I do when I hug the post is turn it to face towards the puck. If you ever get a puck shot (roller even) at anywhere on the back of your catch glove, it hurts. There's almost nothing there usually.

I sometimes question even hugging the post in the first place. The shooter has no angle whatsoever, and is more likely to pass or skate. So you'll probably have to move, instead of stopping a shot. But because you aren't defending the shot, he may shoot at the hole where your glove would be. My outlook on that is you probably should be able to stop a shot like that. I guess there will be the occasional goal that squeaks by, but you will probably stop more one timers and such.

Just my opinion...
