Can I switch steel blades myself?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Here is the scenario:

A. 1 pair of bauer 8000 skates with tuuk+ 280 (new steel)

B. 1 pair of tuuk+ 280 holder with used steel (profiled to my liking)

I would like to replace steel from B to A.

Can I do this myself with a tool? If so which one?

Do the holders have to be unmounted when changing steel?

Thanks alot for your help!

Unlace the boot, Pull out the insole, pop up the two white caps in the boot and you'll need an 8mm socket and some good extensions if you have them.

When you reinstall the steel, I recommend putting a little bit of blue loctite on the nut and when you snug them down, don't go to town or they will break. Tighten and when they feel snug, give them another 1/2 turn.

Hopefully this covers it.

It may also help to put a very small ball of tape in the bottom of the socket to help hold the nut while you are putting it back on. Getting the blade off isn't all that hard, but putting the nut back on in the toe can be a little bit of a pain the first few times you do it.

Bauer 8000's came stock with LS2, and your saying you have Tuuk + which i'm assuming is custom plus, there is 2 bolts in custom plus, one by the toe one by the heel, your going to have to make sure theres holes drilled for both areas, other wise your going to have to drill a hole or unmount the holder.

If they came stock with C+ from St-J they would have the holes drilled.

If the socket method doesn't work out(which it usually doesnt for custom+, the toecap gets in the way so its hard to loosen the front nut) you would probably have to go to your local shop. I dont know of any tool that would be in the average home tool box that could change rivets.
