Sher-wood RM9 blade review, suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has used a Sher-wood RM9 tapered blade and to ask what your experience has been with it.

I am currently looking at putting in a replacement blade for between $50-60 Cdn and need some suggestions.

Right now I am using a XXXlite wood blade that I really like but am not crazy about spending $30 every month on a new blade (Big thanks to Chadd for the suggestion of changing tape after every game and tough toe! - works well but still my blade looks rough!)

I was looking at Warrior Dolomite ($80-90 here - too much $$) or a Rbk 7k.

This is to fit into my 6k shaft. Money is tight right now so I can't afford a lot like some people here with the nice gear!

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Not sure if you are RH or LH but I was searching for blades on ebay today, there are 2 Sherwood composite 1150 Axion blades for $47CDN, would have bought but I am LH.

I know its not identical, but I use the standard hosel RM9 (spezza). I really like these blades, they last me quite a while (about 1 for every 2 or so months). I came from buying 12 packs of 950 woodies and blowing through them in about the same amount of time as one of these composites. The feel is a little different from a woodie, but I really enjoy the rigidness that this blade offers. No more torquing from a weak blade on snap shots or onetimers. Im on the ice about 4-5 times a week and love the fact that Im still working on my first batch of six from earlier this summer. I will definately recommend this product.

I have one up for saler right now - a LH Bouchard. The durability seems to be good. The pattern is not, however, consistent witht he RM9 OPS patterns. On the OPS, the Bouchard pattern is very similar to a Tkatchuk - a slight heel, mostly closed mid curve. On the RM9 tapered blade, however, the curve is a very agressive, much more open heel curve.

i will agree that the rm9 replacement blades vary a bit in their curve from other models of blades with the same curve "name". The spezza I use is more of a gentle heel curve that twists slightly, where as the 950s were an open heel all the way (more straight faced)

Thanks for the feedback!

I have decided to go with 2 Synergy II Drury blades from Cyclone Taylor. Was able to get 2 for $80. I have done a search on here and have seen there have been some durability issues. I hope these will last a little while longer than my wood blades.

Thanks again for the input. :)

Nice grab - I am thinking about switching to wood blades on my tapered shafts too - I can get CCM Tacks tapered Stewarts and One-40 Lindros and St. Louis for a pretty good price locally.

I was very happy with the Synergy blade I used, only for a short time, but it was VERY well used and stiff as a board when I got it. Should last you a while.

Good call! I use the RM9 taper-fit Coffey blades (same exact blade as the Momentum XD taper-fit, just new name and graphics), and they simply do not hold up. I broke my last two after about 2 months of play in exactly the same spot -- bottom of the blade where the hosel meets the heel. Also, I find that they are so thin and flimsy they don't hold up well for one- timers or receiving real hard passes IMO. I have been searching and trying different options, but I am too attached to the Coffey pattern, which only Sherwood makes of course.

Good luck with the Synergy II blades from CT. They should hold up real well. CT has the Syn. II pro shafts on clearance too, you may have noticed. I bought one and found they're a lot stiffer and boxier than the reg. retail shafts...
