BruinsFanRI 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2004 The hockey.com retail store is supposed to be one of the bigger stores in the area (haven't made it up there to see it yet). They are in Dover, NH which is really close to the border of Maine. The best thing about buying things in NH is no sales tax! Here is a link with hours/directions:http://www.hockey.com/general.ihtml?pgnm=directions
biff44 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2004 Yeah, I have been there. They have a better selection than Pure Hockey. I recommend them.

GeeZa32 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 I live in Western Mass. I know of two shops, I believe both are owned by the same company. In Springfield, theres a shop called Gateway Hardware. Decent selection, prices are iffy if they dont know you(if your a regular like me, they'll cut ya some deals hehe), the customer service is top notch because they always have 6-7 guys in a relatively small floor(but the backrooms are huge). If you dont see something on the floor, dont be afraid to ask. The backrooms are filled with things they are sometimes too lazy to refill the floor with. The other is in West Springfield at the Olympia Ice Arena. Ive never checked out the prices/selection because I stick to my local Gateway. In maine, I know of one. Play it Again Sports in Portland. Pretty good selection, but some of the prices are terrible. The customer service there is also bad. The employees are punk kids and are too damn lazy to help you out.A little help before you look, on I believe its the Bauer site, theres a "Scotia Skate and Supply" listed as a dealer in Portland Maine. Dont bother looking, the shop closed down. It's just a rink now.
flashgordon 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 The warehouse for www.1800faceoff.com is in New Hampshire near the Maine border. I think you can go there and see/buy all the stuff they have online, but I'd call first make sure how it works.
GeeZa32 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Just came back from Gateway in Springfield and I can recommend it even more.I bought a Nike 0004 Helmet($56) and one of the many salesmen helped me fit it and make sure it fit.Another worker was helping a kid fit some skates, these guys are very personal when it comes to making sure everything is what you want. There are ALWAYS guys looking to help you out.

GeeZa32 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Funny you should ask, there was a blue one sitting in its plastic case on the stairs. So I'm pretty sure they got them. I asked the employee how much it was, I said, "Around $120 right?" He said, "No I think they are around $100"...then again, he told me my Nike 0004 was gonna be $52 not $56 :-/....but yes they have them...
Bo from Boston 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Pure Hockey in Nashua NH and Zwickers in Bedford Ma are the best places around.
biff44 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 The hockey shop in Dover NH is called Philbicks:http://www.philbrickssports.com/It took me a while to remember the name. They have a bigger selection than Pure Hockey by far. There is a pure hockey shop in danvers MA that is pretty good (Rte 1), and a good shop in Reading MA called Dynamic sports (Rt 28) very near Rte 95.I agree, Zwickers is good in Bedford, MA. Andover Hockey shop near corner of Rte 28 and 495 is ok.But phibrucks is as good or better than all or these and closer to maine.

In business since 1983, Philbrick’s Sports started out as a hockey retailer offering equipment to the local area with a focus on value and customer service. As the store grew, Philbrick’s began getting into skiing, snowboarding, cycling and more. The hockey business remained at the core of Philbrick’s and we grew to be the largest hockey retailer in northern New England.
