All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 I was doing some research for a paper on why hockey is not a high school sport and I came across this article. It was a very helpful piece but I got interested in the chicago showcase part too. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn41...15/ai_n19013636I was wondering if anyone on MSH knew anything additional about the showcase. How to get invited, where the team competes and if a senior graduating in 2008 could attend the showcase for April in 2008?I emailed the coach Bob Melton but he has not gotten back to me. It looks like it could be a fun festival to attend and alot of talent is gathered there. Thanks,Matt
flymonty3 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 At least when i played in it you had to get invited to state select team tryouts, then they selected the team from that camp. I played something like 6 years ago so it may have changed since then...In IL you will have a hard time making the team if your not playing on a top midget AAA team, or Jr. hockey. Remember, even the players playing out of state are eligible to play so there is lots of competition but there is a lot of recruiting going on during the event. All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 Thanks for the input. Do you have any idea where the 'selected team' comeptes? Or is it just a honor to be named on the team or something like that?Im not playing AAA or Jr's but Im pretty positive I could if I wanted to. I dont want to devote my entire life to a level of hockey that consumes all of my time. Which is why I think a convention like this might be a good goal for me to set. I like choosing smaller teams to play for once in a while instead of one really tough travel team. For example Statewars, National Jr. Program team, and this might be an option if I could get invited. Im not saying I deserve an invite or that I could make the team, but I might have a chance to be invited to it since they dont get to many players from downstate IL. flymonty3 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 The state i played for had an open tryout that they used to select players for the main tryout camp. You should keep an eye open for a camp and see what happens...
All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 I definatly am. I talked to the head coach's team manager who runs his website. I guess in IL you have to get ranked and the top ranked players get invited to the camp. The problem I am having is Im not in the Chicago area, Im 2 hours South. So I'm pretty sure our league is over-looked by this whole thing.
mgchockey 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 http://www.usahockey.com/amateur_hockey_as...04&ID=90852That is the link to the website that might give you some more info.I played last year for team Minnesota but it was a long tryout process. Seniors from high school teams were chosen to play in a tournament called the Great 8 and then a final team was select from there.
hockechamp14 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 I played for connecticut last spring and we were in the second tier. I heard from 3-4 teams in the CSHL/WSHL jr. leagues, but at that point I already signed with a team.I got on the team pretty much because my coach last season coached the team. In connecticut it was pretty political, and no one really knows about the tournament either.... it's overrated, but since you're so close it's not like you're going to be paying too much for plane fares etc.
