5minutesforfighting 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 We play against a rec. league team once a week...usually when I'm screening their goalie he'll tap the back of my skate with his stick. Which doesn't bother me one bit. He's pretty clean though, as he should be, aside from being the goalie for the rec team, he refs SJHL games and our hockey games. Chadd 916 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Running the goalie is just as classless as what he's doing. Be a man and tell him you don't like what he's doing. If he continues to do it, let him know in another way or avoid skating with him.

I've told him what I think of his play ,I don't think he is the kind of player who play's with any degree of sportsmanship,so me telling him what I think of him won't change anything.People like this guy really are'nt worth raising a hand to I think its time to find another pickup with people who know how to play hard but play fair.Retaliation is'nt always the answer ,in something as trivial as a pickup hockey game particularly. What goes around ,comes around .I'm sure he'll hack the wrong person one day and get what 's coming to him,I'll never know and don't particularly care. It's just very disappointing to come across such unsportsmanlike play but hey ! thats life eh ? You have to pick your battles and it would be sinking to his level of play to retaliate I think. :)
Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 I've got a simple rule about this. If a guy is screening me in pickup, that's great: I get a better workout. If he initiates contact, whether by backing in, running a pick, slashing, whatever, I ask him pleasantly to stop in the interest of fair play. Done conspicuously enough, this will usually get a couple of other players on his case. If he persists or is generally a dick about it, I will offer to leave. This will usually get every player on the ice on his case - they don't want to lose a goalie for his sake. It's a little harder when one of us is being a jerk. We know we're a valuable commodity, and some of us get off on that while at the same time being tremendously insecure assholes. One way to handle it is to ask the goalies to switch end sat the halfway point, then simply agree with your guys to give the asshole no protection. Another way would be to put him at risk: don't bother trying to score, just hit him with the puck as hard and high as possible. Either way, he'll get the message. booyaagrandma 4 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 or the guy becomes a bigger prick and gets even dirtier until a fight starts...That is what I'd expect from this tit, so I'll just find another pickup. If a fight did start it'd be me against him and ALL his buddies so ...no thanks,I go to play hockey ,not get into a scrap . Ultimus 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 I screen the goalie a lot... I take whacks at the puck sometimes it can be close with a whistle but I never take a whack after the whistle.... if the goalie clearly has it I won't try to hit it loose either.A game a couple of years ago I was screening the goalie, contact is made when their players hit me or try to move me out of the way... I won't make intentional contact. I think we were up by 5 goals or so. He gave up a few to the screen and I had one at least one goal from him not fully covering the puck... He just wasn't covering the puck and losing it all game long...Well he got sick of it when I took one whack at a puck that was halfway exposed under his catcher and no whistle had blown yet... I didn't score, he fully covered and the whistle blew. When he got up he lifted me up with his goalie stick between my legs... I shoved him off he dropped his stick and started swinging... Blockers hurt he got two punches in I threw a couple and about had the mask off before everyone and the refs jumped on me and him to separate us.Now this wasn't a brawl, punches were thrown... I'd call it an altercation before I would call it a fight... I have been in shoving matches and punches thrown but I will not throw the first punch but I'm not going to start the fight but I will defend myself. The 4 "fights" I've been in, was the goalie, being ran from behind, crosschecked from behind into the boards, "superstar" frustration(started slashing/hacking taking runs) everytime I would just shove them off or push them away and make a comment but they just keep coming back... I won't be abused but when you have to get up and go to work the next morning you don't need to result in fisticuffs. Most of the time fewer than 5 punches are thrown a piece before its broken up anyway. Is an automatic ejection and one game suspension the next time is for the year, its just not worth it. Penguinsfanatic 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2007 In the pick up games with my friends I'm a goalie and a forward....when people screen me i give them a little nudge if they are really close to me but nothing more than a light little friendly shove and the other goalies when I'm screening them is like wise.....but if i played with a dick like that and got wacked in the balls i would probably take the puck and crash the net and just blast him only after you try to resolve the conflict with words if that doesn't work which i doubt it will crash the net and just blast him a good one
