Pump question - should I be worried?

Recommended Posts

then what's the purpose of having an inflaittable bladder. Your skates are never tied the exact same and your body always changes shape and size from swelling, water, etc.

I've bought 3 pairs of pumps, 9k's for me that I've used for over a year, 5k's that were my son's first pumps and his current 9k's. We always deflate them before taking them off and pump them up to fine tune the fit. We have yet to have any problems.

I'm just the messenger...

Theoretically, your ankles really shouldn't be changing all that much once you find your comfort spot. It makes sense to me that the valve would fail the more it was used.

while it does make sense that the valve could fail in use, I agree with chk hard.

I've had my 9k's for just about 2 years now and no problems what so ever with them. I deflate them after every practice and game and pump between 5-15 pumps depending on the foot and whether or not I'm wearing my brace.

So if someone has a heel of a bauer skate and fits a rbk skate and inflates the bladder would it hold the heel nice and snug? Or would That person need a narrower heel? Its basically a 50/50 chance of leak and can be affected by heat molding?

I put a good bit of skating into them today. What I can say in response to this is that there is a lot more side to side movement in these skates. The air bladders lock the heel down well, but the top of the boot is much more open than my 8090's were, which means there is much more ankle roll in these. The place most affected by inflating the skates is the hollow between your ankle and your heel, so they do lock down on your feet well. In the 8090's, I didn't lace up the top eye - in the 7k's, I do. I also paid close attention to the pump - there was still a fair amount of air in them after the practice...I will keep an eye on it over the next week or two and see if there are anymore episodes of lost air. Apart from that concern, I am extremely happy with these skates.
