Wow, just took a nasty spill while charging the net, and went head first into the ground. Hasn't moved an inch, and is being carried away on the stretcher.

Wasn't he out for sometime with a prior injury a few seasons ago?

EDIT: Was a neck injury in 2006. Hope it isn't reinjured or anything.

I know pro athletes have a "never say die" attitude...but really, shouldn't you quit playing a contact sport after you've had vertebrae in your neck fused?

Ask Gary Roberts what he thinks about that.

It was a tough play, hate to see things like that happen to guys who appear to be good guys.

I always thought Gary's neck problems were muscle/nerve related...not structural.

Roberts had a similar fusion surgery, Rem Murray had the Botox injections to kill his nerve problems.

Glen Wesley has had a vertebrae fusion as well... There's nothing that is physically wrong with Cole, the fusion just limits some range of motion...

from waht i heard he got a NASTY stinger and decided to play it safe and have them take him off to get looked at. because when he fractured his neck, he skated off on his own power and nearly paralyzed himself.

while on the topic of the canes (sort of) and injuries, does anyone know what happend to scott walker about a month ago? he just stopped in the midst of a play and huddled over on the ice. the press is calling it a torso injury, but i have to think that there was more to it than that.

I believe he tore cartalidge between his ribs. Very painful. Check NHL.com and I think they will tell you.
