Boom in American Hockey Talent

Recommended Posts

We (USA) are really going to notice the changing of the guard and the boom in American talent (hopefully) in the next Olympics. Eric and Jack Johnson along with Matt Carle on D, Zach Parise, Phil Kessel and Patrick Kane at Center. Throw in Mueller, Drew Stafford, possibly T.J. Oshie (depends on how he progresses). The US will probably have less than 6 (if that) from of the previous Olympic team. The last few drafts, with multiple players coming from the US in the first and second rounds, really show the growth and improvement, talent wise, coming from the US.

Its interesting to me to see how the under 20 year-olds are doing fairly well fairly quickly in the NHL. Kane, Toews, Mueller, Gagner, Marc Staal, Dubinsky, and others are handling the faster pro game very well. Whether they are US or Canadian born doesn't make a difference.

well in the past you would take a more experienced guy that cost more but in this new cap system, if you can get a guy that performs on his rookie contract like Semins, Crosby's your going to go that route...

And to think, they said this year was a weak draft year, yet 2 18 year olds have been doing amazing.
