Need some new skates, where to go?

Recommended Posts

So im in need of new skates, and honestly dont feel comfortable buying online, especially if im going to spend 250 plus. I have never been fitted for a skate, mostly because i live in Louisville, kentucky. and hardly anyone likes hockey here, and the local shop here is basically youth or nothing. I am hoping to make a little drive here soon. I dont reall want to go over 150 miles so that leaves me with SportsPlus in cincy, and Pepsi colisseum in Indy (If you know of any good shops south of there let me know!). Never been to either, and most people i play with have only ordered online. Has anyone had experience with either of these. fwiw im guessin i wear a 9 or 9.5 (D or EE, no clue) and am interested in the Vapor XXV and XXII. Im currently wearing a pair of Bauer Supreme silver edition (cheap-o's like $40) senior size 9R and they feel a little narrow (forefoot/toecap). was told that the vapors fit differenly, and the new supremes fit differently based on model. Basically i just dont want to make a wasted trip and looking for opinions, and want to get a good fit in a NikeBauer skate. thanks!

I'd wait until you have the opportunity to try stuff on. But honestly, if you spending $250+, then whats 150 miles?

the XXV is a good choice and the XXII also. like you that was my 2 choice. tryed both and both are realy comfortable and felt right, for 90$ diff btw both i went for the XXV. weight wise it barely noticeble lot of room i have prety big feet i where 12 shoe size and got 10.5 EE and they fit nicely and comfortable. you can't go wrong with these excellent skate in my opinion.

Sportsplus is your best bet. They will at least have your size in skates. That way you can try stuff and order online if need be. Who do you play for in Louisville. I played there for like 6-7 years, and my bro is playing or the midget Stallions there.

Plus, there are tons of people who love hockey in Louisville. Two travel programs, four high school teams, and a ACHA college team. Thats the most hockey that the city has seen in years. Before that players were going off to play AAA, juniors, a couple of prep school kids, and ACHA college.

Yeah I play at iceland and occasionally make it to alpine. I play in the adult league Never Ever (as in never ever played hockey ;) ) Playin since march now, starting to get good. I try to make it to as many stick and pucks as possible tho. i actually go to UofL and know some of the players on their club team, hopin to join it in the next 2 years or so...

But yeah i really need some new skates! my $30 skates arent doin too good. Blocked a shot last night and felt like i broke the toe cap (not really broken, but the skates are all but completely dead)...

Hopefully you'll get to play me over here in Lexington then, because I'm coming to try out at UK.

Seriously though, try sportsplus. They have all kinds of stock, and if they don't have it, they'll get it. Great guys up there. Know by name actually. :) Talk to them and be friendly, they will definitely hook you up.

Pepsi Coliseum has NOTHING. The shop in Pan Am is top notch.

Also, I'm not sure where Fisher's is in relation to Indy but the Forum at Fisher's Pro Shop usually has a good amount of stuff. Not always the greatest prices, but usually a good amount of stock.

I've also been to Sports Plus and they have a great selection as well and I can agree the guys there are really nice and helpful.

If I were you, I'd try Pan Am and or Fisher's while in Indy and if nothing there, definitely go to Sports Plus. Good luck man.

Just got home. Had practice today and used the new skates (Sup. 70's) and it was a little weird at first. Definitely a lot stiffer than im used to, but after about the first 30 minutes of praying that i dont wipe out :D i got used to them. Towards the end of practice i was turning sharply, quick stops, and giving them the business... I am so impressed witn these skates, cant wait to get back on the ice~!
