Easton Shaft Advice

Recommended Posts

Broke my TPS R4 after 6 weeks so I think its back to a shaft and blade. What is the difference between the Easton Senior Griplite Shaft and the Easton Senior Z - Bubble.

Thanks

1.Both take standard blades

2. Griplite is a consistent shaft diameter whle the zb is thinner and then flares to a larger size to accept the blade. The "flare" is engineered to give the shaft a lower kickpoint. Somewhat of a compromise between a taper shaft w/standard blades.

3. UL is a tank whereas a zb is more of a performance oriented shaft.

both are great shafts, one thing i wouldnt do is put the ZB with a hevy blade, as the shaft is so light it totaly unbalances the stick.

If you're looking for reliability, go for the GripLite; if you take the plunge for the Bubble you might break it sooner than your R4.

Thanks

I had all ready been attracted by the "tank" description above.

If you can find a golden/brown Ultra Lite get that one above all others. Haven't used the white one but the neon green ones definitely weren't as good as the brown ones.

I love my z-bubble...makes for a killer quick snap/wrist shot. I havn't had durability issues after about 8 months but I also only play inline with the IDS pucks which are noticably lighter than ice pucks.

My Griplite will be here in a few days, how much will using a wooden blade upset the balance. I have a handfull of Shanahan wooden blades that I like and would like to use but will the stick feel weird with a light shaft and heavy (relatively) blade?

i take it your using easton shanahan wooden blades?

if so they where not really that heavy, compaired to heavily fiber-glassed blades.

should be okay balence with those blades.

if you got the white easton ultra light get the white TPS 'red tpc light' blade as its a wicked combo. (best i have used, even better than a bubble with z-carbon blade combo)

i used it untill the blade broke and the lhs dont have any nash curves left :(

Yes its a wooden Shanahan, based on your feedback I will try the wooden one and see how it feels. Problem is I cannot get a Shanahan blade in non wood - maybe there is something similar around?

a CNT Z-Carbon would probably balance out a Z-Bubble nicely. my friend has it in his Z-Bubble and its the lightest standard shaft combo ive ever felt, and its well balanced too.

Easton has stopped making the Shanahan blade. For similar ones look at the blade pattern chart at the top. I think the Heatley might be close Good choice on the Griplite. I think you will love it.

It's a great combo...good feel with the puck. It shouldnt upset the balance too much at all as the UL isn't ridiculously light. I actually like using my heavier TPS wood blades in my UL shaft. I was using a NBH one40 and it felt a bit blade light to me even.

Certainly not anymore, but I believe they made the ST blade in Shanahan at some point. Assuming I'm not dreaming, and those exist, you might be able to find one of those somewhere.

the Easton ST blades are the worse blades easton have made EVER in my opinion. i bought 2 in a Sakic as im a Sakic/Nash curve fan, and its just to heavy and bulky, the blade is so thick and heavy.

they stopped making all shanahan blades- wood and composite. this was about 2 years ago iirc.

i've never had a problem with a wood blade in my griplite before it broke. Depending on the length you need, using a wood plug can help fix any blade-heaviness.

btw, if you got one of the original grip-lites (olive green color) it's a great stick with what most consider the best grip around. care to share where you found it? The newer red ultra lite grips are good too, but the grip peels on them with time.

you're imagining.

it was closest to the louisville rubber if anything, but not as grippy, and it didn't peel. It wasn't a slick rubbery grip, but had a bit of texture to it. nowhere near as much texture as polarfibre though.

was the grip on the griplites not polarfibre-esque?

as i recal it was, but i could just be imagining things(and probably am)

The Ultra Composite had a sharkskin grip on it and that was similar to polarfibre. The Grip Lite's grip, to me at least, feels like someone put some talcum powder on a current Easton grip stick.
