International Stick shipping

Recommended Posts

Ok guys here it is. Im from the uk and ive mentioned before in other posts and you are probably all aware that if you want hockey equipment here it is rediculously priced if you want to get high end stuff. Because of this i have had to aquire sticks via ebay on the off chance my flex, pattern and handedness comes up. I used to have no problems and shipping used to cost 20-40 dollarsish depending on the extent of the packaging(cardboard or a plain bin bag taped up)

However recently after winning auctions and being quoted 30ish dollars shipping when i have inquired prior to bidding, i have been contacted later saying they cannot ship the stick because there is now a 60" limit and the only way would be via ups or fed ex resulting in a shipping cost of more than the stick. Was wondering if any of you guys had recent experience shipping sticks internationally and how u got round it to avoid the massive cost?

I came up with an idea that i think the last guy i got a stick off used, instead of using a long rectangular box, create a more square box with a shorter length but wider width and have the stick diagonally inside. when i have suggested this the people have not even tried, can any1 think of a way i can get synergy se's, stealths without being ripped off?

USPS had the 60" limit for int. shipping for as long as I can remember. That´s why I never bought OPS overseas. You can tell them to cut them down to 59" maybe? But seriously, the wider boxes won´t work cause there´s a limit in dimension, too. Girth? Don´t know the english word right now. But basically the longer the box is the thinner it has to be in order to keep the maximum allowed dims. Know what I mean?

Edit: If you´re looking into high end stuff at somewhat decent prices without huge shipping, taxes and other fees you might want to consider buying your stuff from german dealers. There´s a couple places where you can get for example the O-tek for 150 Eur right now.

Try www.hockeyoffice.com. Still pricier than the US but main problem is that US stores won't ship most brands to the UK due to rules by the manufacturers unless you can find a friendly person in the US to take delivery and ship the goods onto you - I haven't found such a person yet though!

For Easton in Europe: www.rexhockey.com is a pretty good site.

But you should just ditch easton all together, they are way too expensive in europe compared to all the other brands (eastons own fault).

It makes no sense at all to buy Easton, when you get the same (u.s. prices) stick cheaper from Bauer, CCM/RBK and TPS.

Bauer has the best/cheapest distribution system in europe, which gives them a huge advantage in retail compared to all other brands around here.

Personally i had no problems having a stick delivered to italy. last time i bough a TPS adrenaline from hockeyoverstock, and shipping cost was 39.50 us$. i know it's not cheap, but the stick was, so...

in any case they ship via FedEx. The only problem is that duty fees in distribution center in Milan are not always calculated based on invoice amount, but with a products schedule that they have that is way expensive... In any case, due to the USD / EURO rate, finally my stick was equal to 100€, shipping, taxes and duty fees included. still less than 250€ they ask here in stores...

i had this problem this time last year. me and my brother ordered sticks and shipped them to my aunt in the states n she sent them via USPS she sent mine fine and they arrived and cost around $20 bargain. then a day or two later she went the the post office to send my brothers sticks and they wouldnt accept them ended up sending them via UPS and cost around £100!!! maybe if they are easton sticks you can take the plug out at the end, that will reduce the length. It sucks big time!!

in the US you can send them via USPS global priority for about 30.00 and it takes 5-10 days to arrive. I just had 18 sticks sent to me in Europe and it was less than 80.00 to mail all of them, with insurance.

What I find really weird about usps is that i've shipped to England twice and one arrived in 4 days the other in 5... I've shipped many times to Canada and none arrive in under 7 days, normally closer to 14 days.

Thats because Canada Post handles the delivery up here TBLfan. Remember Newman from Seinfeld, his picture should be on stamps in Canada.

Postal service is cheapest way to ship though, you don't get hit with ridiculous brokerage fees UPS charges-most packages sent as gifts arrive without duty owing.

...and that is why I too always insist on USPS to ship when buying on Ebay
