Wayne 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2007 This has got to hit close to home for anyone who played club hockey. I know for myself it did, as we used to drive university vans on roadtrips that were under 1.5 hours. My thoughts and prayers are with the Purdue University team. stickfixchaska 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2007 The one player who passed away is named, Andrew Jackson. My wife is friends with Mrs. Jackson, Andrew's Mother. This has hit the family very hard, not only because of the loss of their son Andrew, but also because he had battled cancer (in his teens) and won. He had a cancer scare recently but was given a clean bill of health. Hope is a typical hockey mom and is very proud of her son and his accomplishments, both on and off the ice. The funeral services for Andrew Jackson will be held in Chanhassen, MN at St Hubert's Catholic Church, at 2PM tomorrow (12/7).It sounds like his Purdue club team and former JR Gold team will be playing an exhibition game in his honor and both are dedicating their seasons to him. His former highschool team (Chaska) has also dedicated their season to AJ and will wear his number on their helmets for the rest of the season. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jackson Family and anyone who knew Andrew. God Bless.Edit++For anyone that can make it, the Exhibition game is Friday night at 9:30pm.

wristshot19 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2007 I played with the club team at Purdue for a short time. This sort of thing was bound to happen when the team is forced to practice and play over an hour away. The only way to get to the team's home ice in Danville, IL is via a small two lane country road that twists and turns all over the place. There were many times we were trying to make games and practices on the same roads with little or no visibility and/or traction in the winter months. The university offers hardly anything in the way transportation to make these trips safer. You get a few 12 passenger vans from the motor pool and off you go. Unbelievable that a school the size of Purdue (and with the money of Purdue) has not built a new ice rink!My heart and prayers go out to the family. The Purdue hockey club is a unique bunch and it is a blow to us all. God bless.
