Hockey Socks

Recommended Posts

Recently the rinks I've been playing at have turned down their temperature. One rink has turned it way down. I mean it feels like I'm playing pond hockey. Anyways, my current thin socks I use in my skates aren't doing the job... My feet are wet, freezing cold, and my toes get numb. It isn't because my skates are too tight, which a few guys suggested. I think it's just the fact it's so damn cold, and I skate so hard that all that sweat gets down into the boot. If I didn't throw my socks in the dryer, it would take them a day and a half to dry. They're soaked.

Anyone recommend a good sock to use that won't disrupt my skating, yet will keep my feet dry and warm? I saw that Under Armor had socks available at my local hockey shop, but I didn't take a look at them yet. Any recommendations?

I know it is recommended to use a thin sock. Will a thicker sock screw me up?

Thanks!

I have the same problem. I find that in polypropylene liner socks, my toes just get absolutely frozen. In CCM Oxysocks, they're a bit better, with the thicker knit material. But my toes still get pretty cold. Smartwool ski socks (the thinnest ones they make) do the job for keeping warm, but they're too thick for my liking in skates.

Someone can enlighten me too.

the focus of the sock is to transfer moisture from your foot to the boot, I would recommend figuring out how to get it out of the boot, you may need to look into a different footbed or poke some serious holes in the ones you have ...

if they are that wet you should probably just handwash them instead of putting it in the dryer...anything that is wet with sweat is going to take a while to dry out compared to being just wet from wash etc..

I'll look into those Under Armour socks. I have Easton Synergy 1300 skates, and there is plenty of space for ventilation. I think that might be part of the problem. Cold air is getting in while trying to ventilate.
