Is this damage terminal?

Recommended Posts

Just got a new stick delivered via UPS. It WAS shipped well (In a thick "tube" with padding on each end). But UPS destroyed the tube and taped it back together.

There's a chip at the bottom of the shaft on the tapered end...Noticed the damage while heating up a blade to assemble it... :(

Ok or not ?

Thanks, Shawn

what can brown do for u? man that sux, although I have bigger chips out of sticks that I still use. I'd say call the company and see what they say about shipping insurance, explain ur problem. if no result from that, u may end up being fine w/ it.

It seems like the damaged portion of the shaft is small enough that you could cut it off and a blade would still fit fine (despite the taper).

You could always just cut the shaft past where the chip is if they don't cover you. It's not that much higher. You might end up having to use tape on the end of the tenon to make it tight enough, but the taper is spread over at least 10 inches so odds are you won't notice a difference by cutting 1/2 a centimeter from the bottom (and, of course, if it's a standard hosel shaft then you're perfectly fine).
