Bauer Blade Rocker

Recommended Posts

To take this a step further...could someone in the know post the stock rocker of all the major brands? I know I saw it on here somewhere but a search was futile.

Not sure what difference it will realistically make. To my knowledge, most sharpening places (around here, at least) have a preset radius (will guess 9ft) and, over time, you will get whatever it is that you normally do.

Also, strictly a guess here, I would imagine that CCM uses a longer radius as they don't use oversized runners that way more steel hits the ground. The mission pitch holders I have on my Kors are 8mm longer than the same sized ProTack I have and the ProTacks have been sharpened enough where the radius has been changed to whatever they're sporting at the hockey store I frequent. I wouldn't normally think there'd be a difference that I would notice (since 8mm is pretty small) but I actually do notice that extra runner contact on the ice (feels like it's harder to get going and I can't be as precise on cross overs).

Just me passing a comment though....

From another post a long time ago:

Graf/Mission 11", CCM 10", Easton/Bauer 9"

Unfortunately, I don't remember where the post is; I just saved the information in a text file.

The sharpeners near me (Long Island) typically use the Blademaster. There is no preset radius on this type of hand sharpener but generally the effect you speak of is true. Over time, due to increased pressure on the blade tips, the rocker radius on the skate changes. Generally the shorter radius (9 foot) makes tight cuts easier and forwards like it. The longer rocker (10 or 11) is favored by defensemen who have more stability skating backwards. Many also feel that the longer runner gives more speed.

Of course this is all just a matter of personal prefernce and the reason I'm interested in the rocker length is because after so many years of skating on a longer CCM rocker I've grown used to it.
