Ryan Clowe arrested for DUI

Clowe, who was released later Monday, is the second Sharks player in two seasons to be arrested on suspicion of drunken driving despite a specific team policy to prevent it. The organization guarantees reimbursement for a taxi or car service to any Sharks player or staff member who needs transportation.

It's a darn good policy to have, and a shame that Clowe didn't take advantage of it. If I had that kind of setup going, I damn well wouldn't be driving anywhere that I'd be drinking.

Topic should be called 'how stupid is Ryan Clowe?"

Honestly, if they're going to reimburse you to have a limo take your drunk ass back to the apartment, then get some hookers and show them a little class in the limo

Whoa. Freal? How good are you? NAHL?

You're such an idiot. Bad decision by Clowe without a doubt. In San jose's policy is there a punishment?

wrong spot at the wrong time... being THE FRICKEN ROAD, while HE WAS DRUNK.

down play it much?

COMPLETELY agree with your statement here. So by some others opinions on this thread it is OK to drive while DRUNK, as long as you don't get pulled over? Obviously you have not been on this Earth long enough to know someone that was killed by a drunk driver. And that your friend was simply "at the wrong spot on the road, and also at the wrong time."

I agree it's a nice perk. But in the end what is it, $20 to $40 for a cab/car service?? Even if you pay yourself, spending $20 to $40 bucks for a ride home is a lot cheaper than what you'll shell out for a DWI, or worse.

What I have to say on this topic is this:

I know there are people out there who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers and I'm sorry for that. I am fortunate and blessed enough not to have been in that situation. As for Clowe...the guy was probably out for a few beers and ran into a road block where they had a breathalizer and were testing everyone. For all we know the guy blew a .0800001, which isn't enough to impair most people. There is a big difference between driving while you are smashed and can't stand up straight, let alone drive a car, and having a few drinks with dinner. Keep in mind he was arrested on DUI charges, not DWI...most DWI arrests are so drunk they can't even remember how they ended up in the jail cell. How many of you out there have taken your significant other out to a nice dinner and had a glass of wine or 2 with dinner? Chances are you were around .08, but I bet you drove home anyways and didn't run into a road block A.K.A. local government funding program. Wrong place, wrong time, not downplaying it either as it is a serious problem. I can see both sides to the argument. While some of you may disagree (some with just reason to do so), I really don't think this is too big of a deal. DWI on the other hand...that's a different story. Flame on.

For a guy his size, he would've had to have had 7-8 glasses of wine with dinner to blow .08 or over. On the "smart serve" test they don't even list the amount of drinks it would take to get a guy his size over the limit. It's over 6 in the first hour and I believe 8 by the 2nd hour.

BBruin8,

Nice post and I agree.

Eazy,

Did he get pulled over after a game or practice? If so, if he was dehydrated he could have had just one beer and blown the limit. Happened to a friend after golf.

I'm not sure when, but in general, it's very hard for a guy that size playing at this level to blow that without having a fair amount to drink.

He's been out of the lineup for a while, something to do with his knee i believe, so it couldn't have been that. Probably was out late had a few drinks decided he could drive safely and got unlucky.
