Trying new skates and the midfoot bulges when I lace them up

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying a pair of rbk skates (7.5 E width) and as I lace them up I noticed a couple things:

1) The insides of my feet (i.e. my instep) cause the skate boot to bulge around the midfoot. So instead of having two straight rows of lace eyelets, I've got the outside which is straight and inside (instep) bulging out a little bit. If I try to correct it by tying the laces tighter, my feet hurt.

2) The skates pass the 3rd eyelet test from the top, but as you approach the midfoot (lower down past the special lock-down eyelets) my feet bulge up a bit, and they don't pass the eyelet test so cleanly. I figure this is somehow related to the above observation.

Other than above, the toe box and heel feel great.

So can someone help me interpret what's happening here? Would baking the skates cure this problem or is the fit so wrong I should just move on and try something else.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the feedback - I specifically wanted to try a rbk because I'd heard they're one of the more deeper fitting skates. So if rbk doesn't work, is my only option then Graf?

As an FYI - I'm currently wearing vapor's (I was fitted for these at my LHS) but I've always suspected they weren't deep enough around where my foot meets the ankle. Just south of the third eyelet, my foot bulges and it just fails the eyelet test.

Thanks again guys.
