Platypus 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 Hey,I live in Toronto and I applaud the city on maintaining free shinny all over the city. The trouble is that they generally scrape the bottom of the gene pool to staff them and schedules are rarely enforced leaving me skating around 5 and 6 yr old pylons. I usually go to Ramsden on weekday nights (after 7 seems to be 18+), Giovanni Caboto (can be hit or miss weekday nights), Christie Pits (Saturday aft is usually pretty faced paced but can get crowded.Im looking for some new times, preferably 18+ or fast paced. Thanks for any help
Jordan 13 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Have been at some pretty good skates at Hodgson - Mount Pleasant and Millwood, south of Eglinton - in the evenings (I think it's either tuesday or wednesday evenings that is scheduled for shinny 3)
flashgordon 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Agree with Hodgson. The Rosedale rink has some decent shinny early on the weekends, and often they flood with a Zamboni beforehand (yes in Toronto they have Zambonis for some of the outdoor rinks). The shinny schedules for all the rinks are on the City of Toronto site: http://www.toronto.ca/parks/recreation_fac...ing/skating.htmClick on the links to the different regions. Diddy12 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Icesports Scarborough has Shinny everyday at 12pm and 12am for $5. I haven't been in a wile but It use to be pretty good but it probably has lost some quality over the years. Sometimes it can get crowded but if it does they open up another pad. Do you guys know what the standard equipment is? Like is it straight up shinny with just skates and gloves, or do most guys wear pants/shins? thanks
Platypus 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 thanks guys ima try hodgson and rosedale once it gets cold again on thursday.skates, gloves, stick. I always bring my helmut but have only been asked to put it on twice this yr, once at ramsden and once at giovanni caboto. i also think its a good idea to wear a jersey. at any one time there will be 5-10 black or grey hoodies and its often hard to tell whos on ur team. i never used to wear a jersey but once i did i started getting way more passes which can often be few or far between if u get a bunch of crosbywannabeesremember, dont raise the puck or shoot from far away. Zamboni 6 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Yep, doesn't suck-its a real workout not shooting.I don't like if a goalie shows in full gear....pucks flying, no equipment-never ends well.
Ender 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 I second Rennie park rink, I go there around 6ish 7 o'clock and there is always a good amount of people playing shinny. They even zamboni the ice before. The lights turn off at 11.
