easton z carbon...

Recommended Posts

I like this stick. However I have had problems with the toe of the blade splitting on me. Today I took a fresh one out for some sticktime and within 30 minutes it was already starting to split on me. It is killing my wallet. I love wood sticks because of the feel and because they're cheaper but 3 sticks in 1 month is 90 bucks.

has anyone had any similar experiences with this stick or possible resolutions? My friend has had the same 1 piece for over a year and he even plays more than me, but I hate that thing it feels like a kids toy. Worst comes to worst I guess I'll have to settle for a shaft and wood blades.

thanks

Z carbon sticks have a compostie blade don't they?

yes, that is correct. I think that's part of the problem here.

ive had no problems with my Z carbon balde in my ak27 shaft

Not the same. I think he's talking about the wood stick.

First of all, I don't really like the blades on the wood easton sticks. They split quite easily. Blades like the one on the RBK 3K last much, much longer from my experiences, because of the blade construction. As the poster above me said, try to tape your whole blade, and wax it well. It will protect it to a certain extent. With wood blades, make sure you take the tape off after every icetime for it to dry properly, then retape. Also check your shooting form. Maybe you are not putting unneccesary stress on the blade. (hitting too far behind the puck, etc.) It has also been discussed around here that you can coat the bottom and toe of your blade with epoxy to give it an extra layer of protection. If done properly, it should extend blade life. Try a search to pull up some topics on this.

Don't ever give up on wood. I've been using composites on and off for about 4 years now, but something keeps bringing me back to the good old wood stick. I just got 12 of the old JOFA hybrids shipped in and placed an order at my LHS for some SOP's, so I guess I'll be using wood for a while yet!

Sounds like you might be using the wrong lie, maybe try a higher lie?

Exactly.

Try a different pattern. Which one are you using now?

Thanks for the replies guys. It's a Sakic, 5.5 lie

two problems I can think of:

1. the stick is just about a tape widths too short

and

2. I don't bend my knees enough.

I've checked the wear marks on my tape, and it is all from the mid of the blade to the toe. Should be something like heel to mid of the blade instead. you combine all of these and it becomes apparent while i've been getting splits on the toe end.

I've really gotta buckle down and bend those knees from here on out.
