Lace bite

Recommended Posts

I've recently been skating on a pair of Nike Roller Daddy skates and I absolutely love them. But I've recently been getting some really nasty lace bite on the upper, front part of my foot. How do you guys fix something like this? I've heard of NHL players sticking packages of peanut butter and stuff in their skates, but that seems like it could be pretty messy. I'm looking for a practical solution, so I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts.

Well, in my experience (only ice) the best way to get rid of lacebite was to get better skates that fit properly. As soon as I replaced my old skates (which didn't fit properly because I didn't know how a skate should fit when I bought 'em), I never had any trouble.

I've never heard of NHL players putting Peanut Butter in their skates. I'm not saying they don't; just that it seems like a very strange way to solve a problem. NHL players have custom fit skates, so I'd be a bit shocked if they really needed to put PB in them for any reason.

I used to get lace bite on my pair as well. It happend right around the same time that the skates were starting to lose a huge amount of stiffness. This may or may not have been the cause but I usually remedied the situation by loosening the laces a little more than usual. Waxed laces really help make it easier when it comes to "tuning" your laces to the correct level of tension versus slack.

PS: I'd stay away from the PB, unless you like random furry (and disease carrying) animals showing up in your skates.

Awesome, thanks guys for the suggestions. I was considering sticking a gel/neoprene pad in that area, but I heard that it could mess up your skates or screw you skating form. But, if you guys say that it works, then I'll give it a shot.

By the way, I found that NHL player that stuck peanut butter in his skates. Thought it might be interesting.

Bunga Pads. Google them Josh.

Good stuff, I didn't know that they made those. Do you have some at Five Hole?

Nah. Im not sure if anyone around us would carry em. Just use the cut up mousepad idea for now if you want to order them.

Bump for new solution...Feminine maxi pads (unopened) stuffed into your sock and taped in place, cheaper than a mouse pad even! Just don't let the guys in the room see ya do it

Not to be funny or anything, but one guy I knew used them as a sweatguard in his goalie helmet.
