How do Superfeet insoles affect the volume of a skate?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious about how a pair of Superfeet insoles would affect the volume of a skate. I know that they have a plastic tray underneath the heel, so I'm wondering if that would raise the heel more than the generic footbeds (in my case, the Nike Bauer ones that are supplied with the Vapor XXXX skates).

The reason I ask is that I think I'm borderline when it comes to the pencil test with these skates, and I wonder whether Superfeet insoles would raise my heel up and decrease the volume within the skate, causing problems?

It's hard to describe, but if you have any knowledge about this, I'd be grateful to know what you think.

Cheers.

the plastic heel piece on super feet is not a very large piece, yet a big step up from the shitty vapor xxxx stock insoles, i would say your heel is going to sit up roughly 1/8 of an inch, i guess it all depends on how close you really are to having too much volume in your foot

There is a very small (negligible) decrease in volume. I was planning on sticking with stock footbeds of my XXXX to maximize volume, but after experiencing pain on the soles of feet, I switched to Superfeet. It was a big improvement. Your skates will definitely feel and fit differently with Superfeet. For me it was an improvement, but it might not be so for everyone.

Your heel will sit up about 1/8".

If you have flat feet, your instep will be pushed up significantly: that will make a major difference in volume. Figure around 1/3" to 1/2".

If you have high arches, they won't make much difference. In my case, they made basically no difference, since my foot only touches the Superfeet at the heel and forefoot; my arch sits almost entirely above the insole, except when I put enormous pressure on my foot (eg. one-leg push-off, hard stop, etc.)

Ys but if you warm the arch and lower it a little for people with Flat feet the heel counter still does its job and there is usually a lot less pain on break in with the Superfeet.

Another thing would be after adjusting the arch would be to re-bake the skates with the insole in.

Very good advice, especially baking the skates with the insoles in place.

If you need maximum support, take the Superfeet out before they go in the oven; but if you're looking for a little supportive comfort, by all means, leave them in to toast.

I tried Superfeet for the first time in two pairs of my skates for the first time last week and they make a big difference. I feel much more stable on the ice because they seem to keep my foot in a much better posture position inside my skate boot. I'm finding my leg thrusts are much smoother and I manoever better with them in my skates. I don't know about other guys but I'm sticking with them. Find them much better than the popular major competators insert I was using previously. They cost me a bit more but I feel they are worth the extra cash you are dishing out for them.
