Synergy 800C brusing big toe

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of Synergy 800C skates that I spent over an hour wearing at my LHS before buying. I squatted, jumped, crossed over and simulated a stride on the carpet. They fit perfect. Toe brushes cap, pulls away slightly when knees bent. On the ice my left sock wore away at the toe in one skate ( yes my toenail is clipped short). Then my toenail gets bruised, and part of my toe gets slightly numb. I do have a small amount of wiggle room with my toe, so I don't think it is getting crushed, at least in a stationary position. These skates fit so well otherwise I'd really like to resolve this. I've gone thru a number of skates to get to this pair that really work other than this. Thanks for any suggestions.

That may have been the case one time, I was experimenting with where to lace the skate tightly and may have left it too loose, but every time out it at least puts a hole in my sock. I read a skate review on a synergy skate from JR, he mentioned something about the toecap being pretty tight.

Got the same issue with a S15. On both skates where the BIG toe is, it feels a bit too narrow/small/whatever.. but thats cool i will get used to it or will try to heat and punch it out or worst case dremel some milimetres off.

After more playing around with this skate last night I found that when my foot is in the skate completely unlaced, the big toe is pressed pretty tight against the cap and there is no room to even force a pencil between the heel and the back of the boot. The toe is not crammed or bent, but it is pressed rather tight. Bending my knees doesn't pull the toe back far enough to provide a "brushing the toecap" fit. I felt it was a pretty tight fit in the store but not uncomfortable.I thought that baking would help. I guess you can't really re-create the force of skating without actually being on the ice. I'll try and find an 8.5 in this skate.

Moral of this story is that I'll make sure to have a #2 pencil with me next time I try on a pair of skates. Not only to do the depth test but to make sure I can force it behind my heel when my toe is pressed to the toecap - but not crammed.

One more question on this. Does Mission make a skate that fits similar to the 800C but with a bigger toecap? (of course!) That is the only brand of skate I haven't tried. There is an LHS that carries them but it's a bit of a drive. I'll make it if there is something that might work for me.

I tried a wider width in a 8, foot was somewhat swimming.

One more question about this issue if I could.

How much space would I get if I moved up 1/2 size in the same skate?

Would that also add noticeable width to the skate? ( like the heel)

Sorry, that was 2 questions !
