Pants V. Girdle

Recommended Posts

Looking to buy pants. I always wore pants in net and wore pants in my limited forward experience. I am buying new pants and I was thinking about a girdle/shell.

Can anyone who has used both explain the pros/cons of one or the other?

Which has a better freedom of movement?

I have used both.

Girdles fit really tight to the body, and have the greatest freedom of movement and fit more anatomically correct. However I find I get overheated easily in a girdle.

I prefer pants. They fit a good deal looser in the legs, and you can regulate how tight you put the waist, and I find higher end pants to be more protective.

I second that. Both can offer great protection but a pant is a more comfortable easier fit. Especially if you get some with leg zips and you can loosen them up. Personally i found girdles great for movement too, but I didn't like the "tight" feeling to them. Just wasn't for me. I like the natural freedom of a pant

I used tackla 5000pro all throughout high school. They offered superior protection.

After high school I switched over to the Bauer girdle. I really like it. It did take a few weeks to get used to, but I think my mobility is better with the girdle than it was with the pants. I also love the fact that I can wear tons of different shells. . . I slowing building up a collection of unique shells.

I think you do lose some protection if you are moving from a pant to a girdle. I actually haven't had a problem with my girdle in the five years ive worn it except for last week. I flew into the air and landed right on my ass where the padding was thin.

As with most everything in hockey, its all about personal preference.

I'm using rbk 8K - keeps the pads in place like a girdle, and I set the thigh pads baggy like pants. I don't hear anyone else setting the 8K up like this, but it works for me. Would this be similar to a tackla pant feel?
