Late Model Sticks

Recommended Posts

This isn't an important question by any means but i was just curious as to why some players continue to use late model sticks, or if anyone has heard any specific reasons from players. I'm not so much talking about sticks that are no longer made (ie. gomez-xn10) but players like St. Louis-yellow synergy, Pheanuf-green st, kariya a while back with brown u/l, and Marleau-green u'l. I'm just curious even tho theres new models of sticks coming out (ie u/l, st) why they continue to use the late models. Could it be as something as simple as they order so many at a time they just havent run out or is it more to do with the actual stick and they continue to track them down or whatnot? sorry if this seems like a dumb question but even with st. louis's yellow synergy's they almsot look like they have st style graphics on them, so easton may still be making them for him..?

St. Louis is a current gen stick painted that way.

Dunno about the other ones...I'm guessing it's just because they are pros and that's what they like so that's what they get.

This is somewhat the same, why does Tomas Kaberle use the old Ccm tacks when there is much better technology in the new skates

probably the same thing, i think more so for skates tho. alot of pros stick with old skates i remember yannic perrault used some real ghetto boots.

Does anyone know if pros get specific flexes too? I assume it would probably go by 5's or something in easton scale but do pros ask for 80, or 90 or 95 or do they just get what we get?

OH yeah there's flexes all over the place, I dont know if you remember when teh Warrior pro stock shafts first hit Hockey Monkey, but they had flexes available in every 5 flex from Easton 120 or so down to about Easton 65

Because they don't have their mommies and daddies buying them new gear every year or whenever the 'flavor of the month' stick, skate, hemet, etc. comes out.

true, but they are pros so companies generally give them first dibs on new product and they generally want them using that new product so mommies and daddies buy it. If NHLers dont use it, it isnt too much of a flavor.
