Mission Fuel 110 Shin Pads

Recommended Posts

A buddy of mine has offered me a pair of Mission 110 shin pads he bought a while back for his own use. His wife however gave him a pair of Bauer One/90 shins for a Boxing Day gift. He's a Bauer guy so he hasn't even tried them out yet and just wants to get rid of them cause they are just using up space at his place. My question is are there any issues with these pads I should be aware of. I presently use some Jofa pads that are starting to show their age so I need to know if the Missions are a relatively protective pad and are of decent quality. Even though he is giving them to me,I would rather buy a new set of Jofa pads if there are any major issues with these pads and let someone else who has no shin pads at all have them.

P.S. I've told him he could have returned them to the store he bought them at but he's lost the receipt and doesn't need any other hockey equipment so he won't exchange them.

I just got some fuel 85's. I'm very happy with them. They are kinda huge though. I had a hard time fitting the leg opening of my roller pants over them. But i am very happy with them. I don't know how the 110's could be too much better.

I've been in the 110's now for a little over a year, and they are a great pad. Protective and comfortable. For me though....the padding on the knee cap seems a bit lackluster compared to other top end pads for when you get a cross check from behind and immediately drop onto your knees. Could be just the sensitivity from my knees due to a couple or surgeries.....but not overly comfortable with heavy impacts to the knees. You will also need tape to secure the pads to your legs properly. This is pretty common with most of todays pads, but I thought that it was worth mentioning.

It's too bad Mission didn't stick with their old method of velcro straps. I've never needed to tape up my Subzero's. I got lucky a few months ago and found a "new" pair on ebay for $10. I also love that Mission pads are bulky. More real estate for shot blocking.

I think my favorite pair of shinpads so far were the old blue/green/white matrix. The ones with the sleeve. They were a little annoying cause you couldn't but them on after your skate was on, but man those jokers stayed put.

if you want a closer to the shin fit the Itech 955 is solid. the 110 has more suspension so it will be better for those that like to fit to be further away from the shin. my only real gripe about the 110 is the lower calf strap which has been addressed in the new 130. if you use any sort of Poly SG tape then the straps are generally not an issue. i still use my 110s and overall am happy, but then with all the driving i do..... i have only skated 2 times in the last 3 months. might help explain why i have a hard time skating anymore. USE IT OR LOSE IT!
