New Gloves

Recommended Posts

So i bought a pair of he10000's about a year ago to replace my wicked lights. They lasted about 2 or 3 weeks and the gussets started to separate/tear. So I've been using my wicked lights and i'm not sure how much longer they will last. They are my most favorite glove i've had. So, i like a looser glove with a short/flared cuff. Protection isn't really a huge deal. I'm looking for a higher end glove, but not M.I.A.'s or anything ($100-140). I don't have a hockey shop anywhere near me to go and try some on. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Since you don't have a shop near you, the only way to know for sure if a glove fits the way you're used to it would be to try on gloves from teammates/friends/etc.

That said...

Take a look at the NBH 4-rolls. nice loose fit with a short cuff, and run about $100.

Might want to have a look at the Eagle X6s as well (14") or X5s (13"), which are also in that price bracket.

Not that looks should really factor in, but the x6's look pretty sweet to me. I also prefer leather or something similar. Other than the x6's i was also looking at

Mission fuel 120's

Mission Boss's/lieutenants

TPS R8's

Warrior MacDaddy's

NBH XX's

But those are all without knowing how they fit and just judging by features and looks.

Id say the TPS R8. i got them in December. they felt so good i bought them right after i tried them on. I wasnt even shopping for gloves. Its a fairly loose glove with lots of padding.

I've been reading more and more on this board and on another one. Seems like the R8 and x6 are my top choices right now. Can anyone with experience of both compare the two at all?

Vapor XXX would seem to fit the bill perfectly for you, and you can get them for a pretty good price nowadays.

he said he was lookin for leather, based on what hes asking for it sounds like the vapor xx is the best bet, minus the tight hand pending on the size chosen.

I think you would want to stick to a classic design. Meaning a four-roll design, such as the R8, Eagle, NBH four-roll. They all have a nice, looser fit, and generally a shorter cuff. Eagle offers a great high quality glove, especially their leather, but can tend to run a higher bill. They break in extremely easily and have good durability. However mine always tore out at the gussets. The R8 and the NBH are great mitties too. If you scour online, you can find them at great deals all over the place. Also if I may suggest nylon is always a great alternative as well. They can be cheaper, but they dont seem to retain as much sweat and are a lot lighter too. However they obviously tear a little better than leather.

Thanks for the input guys (of course i'm always listening for more). I don't know what it is about the nylon, but for some reason (i'm sure its mental) they just seem 'cheaper' to me. I was thinking that in reviews i've browsed lately that the XX was more of a snug glove. Is that true or is my brain overloading? Sounds like the Mission syndicates are out if they are real snug. I'm pretty much ready to order a pair of r8's. That could still change. Right now i'm just waiting to finalize my preparations for a set of sprungs and then i'll order gloves and wheels. Thanks again for the help fellas. And if anyone has any more input i'm still wide open for suggestions.

I switched to a pair of four roll nylon CCM's that I got from a minor pro team's equipment sale dirt cheap. I've used leather all my life, but got these cheap enough to give them a shot. So far, I'm loving the nylon. It's a lot lighter and doesn't feel quite as stiff to me as my old leather Louisville's, but that may be just in my head. They have held up rather nicely so far, playing 10 months without a burn or hole in them.

I liked my X6 enough however the did not have the same feel nor cuff as my X70 which are my refernece gloves. Its like the X6 was never going to break in or give me the same mobility as the old standby. If I were in the market I would be looking for some X72 which are just $20-$40 beyond your top number but IMHO are worth every penny. Don't forget Jason at EWH still has some CP94 Det for $109 new with shipping included, which is a great glove

Disclaimer am in now way affiliated with EWH just passing along a great deal

those cp94's look like a pretty good deal, but the cuff on those things is ridiculously long. I think that's just too much glove for me to handle.

What's a good durable glove for falling on outdoor asphault ??

See if you can pick up a second hand pair of gloves for that maybe. like locust said, they ARE going to fall apart, so don't spend a whole lot on them.

So what is the consensus on the Warrior gloves?

I just ordered a pair of Mac Daddy's, so I'll let you know once I've used them for a while.

I've been using Easton's almost exclusively since I started playing (other than one pair of Mission's I bought for playing outdoors), but I really liked the way the Warrior's feel. They are expensive, but I got a good deal on a new pair on e-bay and they ended up being less than the other gloves I was looking at (Mission Boss and Fuel 120/95's). I would have loved to get the Super Mac Daddy's, but I can't justify spending $160+ on a pair of gloves.

no joking, try and find an older pair of the Rollerblade gloves. Every glove will tear up outside, but Rollerblade used plastic panels on the outer of the glove for street purposes.

I found a 2 year old pair of brand new eagle x70s. according to the description they have one piece fingers though. I noticed that the ones being sold at other places have slit fingers. Is this something that changed over the past year or two?

yep, eagle went to split fingers on all X70s either last year or the year before. Before that they were an option.

Don't let the one piece fingers be a deterrent though, I have 2 pairs of X70s with the one piece fingers, and have used my friends' with split fingers before. The split fingers feel more broken in when new, but the one piece fingers are curved and don't restrict me at all.

pretty much nonexistent matt. just buy the cheapest gloves you can find and junk 'em when the foam starts to fall out.

Well that's what I'm doing now. I use the $30 CCM 492 nylons. I'd loke to get a more comfortable pair, but I know it's probably just not worth it for outdoor roller hockey.
