Malkin and the Penguins

Recommended Posts

i think malkin has one distinct advantage - when geno isn't scoring, he is getting assists. when ovechkin isn't scoring goals - he very rarely gets assists.

malkin has his teammates help - ovechkin just does it all on his own.

i think fleury is still going to be the starter - because fleury is young and the future of the franchise.

as far as conklin goes - he is holding all the cards when it comes to negotiations this summer - if he is for real (and it certainly seems like he is) then the penguins will probably have him be fleury's backup for if he ever gets hurt again. sabourin is the odd man out although i dont think he is that bad of a goalie either. For the penguins management this is all a nice problem to have and i doubt they will keep 3 goalies for too long.

I think the Penguins keep either Conklin OR Fleury, but not both. And that decision will be based on their play down the stretch and in the playoffs.

I think any GM would like to have a problem with having a Cinderella story goaltender, but hopefully they keep both Fleury and Conklin cause I don't mind they way things are going in Pittsburgh at all, I just want them to win the cup and do what they gotta do to get it

Gary Roberts suffers a setback, collapsing and tearing ligaments and is likely done for the season as per KDKA.

Bad news for Gary, bad news for the Pens playoff push.

It gives Shero about 24 hours to make a deal for another vet. I still don't miss Recchi though.

Discuss.

I bet they wish they still had a vet like Recchi though....but if he never got traded maybe he wouldn't be getting the points he is in Atlanta

you have to play to score and he wasn't going to play in Pittsburgh

Hossa's Knee! Holy crap this is bad!

It was a pretty slow speed hit (at least it looked that way) there wasn't the big dramatic leg whip or anything...maybe him sitting out is just precautionary.

First of all, best wishes on his recovery. Second of all hahahahahahahhahaha, so much for three guys and a first rounder. 10:14 and one shot is the sum total of his Penguin season. This does give them a chance to re-sign him at a discount.

Have they updated his condition....how long is he out?

First degree sprain is the lowest level, there's an outside chance he can come back.

The Medial Collateral Ligament is the large ligament on the inside of the knee that links the thigh bone and the shin bone. Damage to a ligament is referred to as a sprain, and depending on the severity of the injury it is classified as first, second or third degree:

  • A first degree sprain is damage to only a few ligament fibres.
  • A second degree sprain is damage to a more extensive number of ligament fibres, but the ligament remains intact.
  • A third degree sprain is a complete rupture of the ligament. Because of the force involved in this injury other structures in the knee, such as the Meniscus (Cartilage) or the Anterior Cruciate Ligament can also be damaged.

Pittsburgh Post Gazette

because they lost Hossa, who sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee and is expected to be out about a week.

"It's really disappointing," said Hossa, who was hurt in a collision with Boston right winger Glen Murray during a second-period power play. "When I dropped the puck to [defenseman Sergei Gonchar], there was a little hit, knee-on-knee. It was just an accident."

That was Murray's take, too.

"I don't know what happened," he said. "I turned, and we collided. We hit at the hips or the knee or something, then all I heard was, 'Oh [expletive], oh [expletive], oh [expletive].' I figured it had to be him."

Wow someone scared me when they said torn and year in the same sentence..

So much for getting him at a discount next year :-p

As for last nights game, you could almost tell the Pens were suffering a drag.. they need to rebound quickly and learn that trades and the trading of friends is part of being a pro..

well they looked a little better today playing Ottawa. One thing I noticed during the game today was that they don't have one or two big guys that play physical and lay big hits, the senators were hitting them every chance they got....but as for Hossa hopefully it won't be to bad and will be back soon on CBC they were saying Hossa is going to be lining up with Crosby and were thinking of moving Staal up to their line and be a winger instead of a third line center, what do you other Pens fans think about that?...as for Malkin he had one goal and two assists to up his point total to 87 man he is not slowing down one bit hope he wins the scoring title and if he keeps playing the way he is it looks like it will be his

Well, my thoughts on todays game against Ottawa:

Hal Gill is a waste. A big freaking waste. He's already been on the ice for atleast 6 goals against. I hope they immediately get rid of him.

Fleury plays tomorrow. Should be interesting. I hope he has a good strong performance.

I think the Pens played a decently physical game. They tried to match Ottawa and they didnt get completely out hit like they did in the playoffs last season. I also liked how teammates were sticking up for each other, especially in the fight and scrums in the first period.

I think Staal needs to be the third line center. Malkin Malone Sykora should not be broken up in my opinion. Put Hossa Sid and Kennedy on a line, as I think Sid and Kennedy play together quite well. Then Staal Dupuis Talbot Ruutu Laraque and James / Hall can make up the 3rd and 4th lines.
