Widest Skate available?

Recommended Posts

I have tried Bauer 8090 8.5ee and am currently using CCM Vector 6.0se 8.0e, but neither can accommodate my wide foot. Any suggestions? I need the widest skate possible.

Cheers.

I'll third the rec on Flexlites. I have EEE feet that are really thick as well. While I could still use a little more depth, overall I'm finally really comfortable with my skates. Mind you, I still had to experiment with different lacing techniques to maximize comfort and fit.

I have the Flexlite 12s, which I don't think they make anymore. Not sure what model you should get now.

In regards to sizing, no it's not close to shoe sizing. I wear a 7.5 shoe, and 4.5 EE skates.

Do Flexlites have the same sizing as shoe sizes?

Not in my case....size 10 shoe = size 8 flexlite 12.

I had a similar issue. Tried tacks E width and no go, but flexlite's in D width fit like a slipper. In my case, I needed the wide toebox.

That's probably about right. I'm a 11.5 shoe and bought some F18's in a size 10 and it's about a 1/2 size too large. Now they're just sitting in my closet (been thinking about giving to my brother as a gift).

However, if you go the flexlite rought the F18's are (supposedly) equivalent the old F10's. Not sure what the F16's are, but am going to guess it's an entry level skate so if you're a person of size or a semi-serious player then it might be borderline for you.

I just spoke with a rep at hockeygiant.com and they told me that the widest skates they carry were CCM and Reebok. The rep suggested getting my current skates stretched. Hmmmmmmmm.

Well phxaz10, When I was skate shopping, CCM's were a no-go for me. All the sales guys at my local Pure Hockey said "no way"... not deep enough, or wide enough. I personally have had both the RBK 7K Pump, and 9K Pump. I fought through all the foot cramps, punching hot-spots, etc. I finally gave up, and picked up a pair of Flexlite 18's. (I tried on the Easton S11, and it was wide, but the depth was an issue for me... and they were about $100 more than the Flexlites) I wear a 9.5 Nike running shoe, and I ended up in a 7.5D Nike/Bauer Flexlite for $275. (A fraction of the cost of both my 7K's/9K's) I have no issues whatsoever with the width, or depth. They're a pretty stiff skate, and they provide good forward flex. Last I checked there, the Flexlite 16 was less than $200...

That's really funny. I once inquired at my local Hockey Giant about stretching my skates, and all three people at the counter looked at me like I had three heads. None of them had ever heard of the process. I wouldn't believe one of their phone reps if he/she told me the sky was blue.

It was one of their reps, Matt, via their online live chat support services.

Unfortunately hockeygiant.com doesn't have the F18's in stock for my size, but they do have the F16's. Have you heard any reviews on these skates?

Cheers.

You need to be a little more specific.

There are plenty of 'wide' skates, but they're all wide in different ways.

Are your feet wide at the forefoot, midfoot, heel, toes; all or some of the previous?

Some people call Nike V-series skates 'wide', but they're actually more like a figure-8 shape. Flexlites are contoured differently: smaller heel, wide-ish midfoot, wide forefoot, fairly wide toe. Graf 709s are wide all the way, except at the toe where they really shrink down; the G70s are narrower in the heel. RBK's are Tack-ish, ikn that they're uniformly wider than normal, but not as extreme in any one area as other skates.

edit to answer the OP's last question: the Flexlite 16's are absolute GARBAGE, but the 18s's are a really nice skate for the money. The 18 is equivalent to the old Flexlite 10, of which there are many positive reviews; I have them myself, and they're a splendid skate. The 16 is the old 9, which was a chunk of crap.

Then I'd tentatively suggest the Flexlite 18s as a good, inexpensive solution, if what you need is a whide forefoot and a relatively snug heel. The Graf G70 would also be good to look at, but a hell of a lot pricier.

However, the Flexlites have an extremely unusual last - they're quite oddly shaped. Some people had major problems with the ankles in particular. It took me a while to get used to them, including a lot of heatgun work on the boot.

I've been searching online for these skates and cannot seem to find any in the size I am looking for. Any other suggestions of where to find Flexlite 18s in a a 7.5ee?

I have a pair of Flexlites and I'm usually a 9.5E in most skates, but a size 9D in Flexlites. They seem to be the widest skate on the market today. I'm not sure about the Salming F1 skates, but I have heard they are quite wide as well, but I do not know enough about them to give you any good information on them. The Flexlites seem to be the best fit for people with thicker feet, or high insteps or wide fore feet. I have an old pair of Flexlite 9s that I got a few years ago..That pair along with the Bauer 8090s are the two pairs I skate in most often..Mainly due to the fact that they're the most comfortable pairs I own width-wise. I could get size 9.5 EE in Vapor XXXXs, but I really do not need $450 skates to skate effectively on the ice.
