Too much skate better than not enough?

Recommended Posts

So I've been shopping around the net lookin for some killer deals on some new skates. I read reviews, went to my LHS tried some on, and I thought I would go for some top of the line skates in the old CCM vector 130 zg with the T-blade system. After talkin I hear getting too much skate for me would be a bad Idea. So I went with the RBK 5k pumps, even though the durability is a concern. I would say I am a solid int. skater but I skate hard and weigh 160 lbs. I paid the same for the 5ks as I would have for the vectors. Did I make a mistake, I am learning fast and playing quite often, I hope they hold up!! Any help would be great.

My first pair of skates only lasted a few months before completely breaking down. My second pair was the second from top model and was still holding up very well when I sold them (wrong size).

For beginners, a cheap skate seems to work fine since they don't have a lot of control and might not stick with the sport. But if you get serious, the second from top models seem to provide most of the benefits without the huge price tag.

I would have gone with the 7k's if they fit, the 5k's were not quite as stiff as I'd like, but that's me. If the 5k's work for you and you're happy, don't worry about it. But if they break down, I recommend moving up a model to something like the 7k's, Vapor XXV's, Vector 8's, etc.
