Hey guys,

I have decided I want to play Goalie. I know nothing about goalie equipment or how to put it on. What sorts of costs am I looking at and any tips/advice on anything at all will be appreciated. I don't have any friends that are goalies.

Thanks a bunch!

That I have ful set of RBK/ Koho/ CCM gear for sale!

In all seriousness, I really enjoy this site and recommend that you continue to be an active member here... But the goalie store is a really good resource for goalies. If you need more help beyond what this site can provide, you might want to consider checking that place out

Frankly, the Goaliestore (aka GSBB) ain't what it used to be. The real wealth of technical knowledge is over at Goalieboard.com, and the gear sales on GSBB are getting a little... mercantile for my tastes.

Anyway, sent you a PM, Jat.

BTW, nice pants walker - the 620s are golden. :)

Yeah, I was a member of the GSBB before I knew about this place, it was the only hockey forum I had found that was intelligent and whatnot. About a year ago they started making big changes and it drove away a lot of people (including me) and it was turned into an arm of Miller. It started getting a cold feel to it and the changes weren't welcomed by all.

Thant's the trouble being owned by a company in the industry though, they wanted to use the popularity of the board to gain exposure.

Looking at goalieboard it seems a lot of the same guys are there, including Scott Battram whose insight and gear production knowledge was invaluable until the GSBB asked him to leave after he wouldn't pay advertising fees (IIRC)

Miller doesn't produce gear any longer and even when they did, they did not make any attempts to leverage the board to drive their own sales, probably just the opposite. It has always been it's own entity and it was not until some changes were made to try and have the board support itself that the "feel" changed somewhat.

Scott wasn't asked to leave and, in fact, can still be found posting at GSbb, he was merely asked to stop advertising his products if he chose not to purchase an advertising package. Seems to be well within the rights of the owners of the board to make that request of him. They didn't ban or block him from the board, he chose to make the discussions public and declare that he would no longer be at that board. Hardly a truthful statement but a different subject, for a different time and place.

A lot of the same content found there, and to a lesser extent here, can also be found on GBbb and there isn't anything wrong with that. There are members that belong to one and not the others so you do get different takes on different subjects and that, in theory if not in practice, is a good thing.

Well, to be fair, Miller himself does still make gear - just not under his own flag.

As you say, six of one, half dozen other the other-- it's really less about the changes in the management of the board (though I do hate the new and totally unreadable classifieds) than about a degradation in the quality of posts in general.

We should change this thread to "The official we talk about GSBB thread"

I agree, the quality of the board has gone down. That is a shame.
