I was going to PM someone who works on these boards, but for starters I assume they're busy enough, and there's probably a lot of others that have experience in running forums. Plus, obviously by the title, all I'm running is a ProBoards forum, and I'm not sure how customizable these really are.

The first problem I'm having: It doesn't seem to support coding for embedding videos, pictures will work, but no videos. The message board we moved from would support these, so it leads me to the first question: Is there anything I can do to make embedding videos possible? I went through the basic Administrator options, and all I could find was a place to allow UBBCode for signatures.

The other problem is the overall layout. Again, I can't find anything on how to change the boards setup, except reordering the boards and categories. Even with the pay services it doesn't say that I'll get anything much extra in return except no more ads. Is this also possible, or will we have to settle with what we've got?

It's not the most pressing issue in my life, but we were on a previous guitar board for a year and a half, and the Administrator there was mostly into drums, and left all the rest of us with one never-ending list of threads (no structure to it whatsoever) which is what pushed us to leave.

I re-registerd at the ProBoard forums to ask them for help, in it's proper place, but even so it's not allowing me access to post there yet (they've been having server issues) and this is why I'm here. ProBoards help sections doesn't explain much more than the basics.

We use Invision Power Board and it's pretty strong. There are a couple little tweaks we'd all like to make but it seems to work pretty well.

Yeah I suppose I'm being picky, but I was disappointed that there were no remedies for these things even if I were paying for the upgraded version. I'll have to look into better options later on it looks like.

My personal recommendation would be get hosting froma cheap and reliable place like GoDaddy and then use the free forum software PHPBB. Although it would cost a few dollars a per month, your forum will be fully customizable and you will be able to have a nice ad-free site in which you control every aspect of.
