I never tested volume/depth with my skates.

I've got 707's. . . no pain or anything, but I guess they aren't deep enough for me. The only three eyelets that the straight edge lays flat across are the first three. Every other one my foot/skate tongue breaks the plane.

This means my skate aren't deep enough right? It doesn't break the plane by much, maybe a bit more than a quarter inch. . . .

krww: are you using the straight-edge with the tongue down over your foot, or pulled up and away? You're supposed to do the eyelet-test with the tongue out of the way...

tsanga: the reason I mention the 707's in particular is that I have a friend who alleviated that exact problem with those skates. His shin and ankle bones are relatively 'far forward' (can't think of a better was to describe it) and it's a perfect fit. Took him a little while to get used to, but he's in love with the comfort.

I just redid the test. . . there are 9 eyelets on the 707. starting from the bottom, the first three clear the straight edge, the next 2 my foot is touching but the straight edge is still touching the skate on both sides. The the final eyelet before the seperated peice with the three eyelets the straight edge can't make it across my foot.

I guess that means the skates are not deep enough. I don't have any pain in my feet when I skate, but they have been punched out a bit and I can't tie the laces super tight.

About 8 years ago I bought a pair of Euro 709's from my old hockey coach. These were the only skates I can recall where the laces lined up straight all the way up the boot (if that makes sense) Does anyone have any idea if these are comparable to the Graf 709's? They looked just like graf's, but the green diamond that normally has a "G" in it had a "709" instead.

thanks for your input Tyler! to the wise guy posting in this thread, $%^& off

Which pair of grafs did this guy end up with?? I just measured my feet at @(#&()@@ I have almost the exact measurements!! 10.3cm/4" wide on the right mid foot and 9cm/3.7" on the left mid foot. My left is also longer by 0.8" longer and is narrower a little. Both heels are 5.5cm/2.3" wide. Also have a really low arch even though his foot doesnt have one. The measurements in comparison is a little off and are planning on trying some grafs so just wondering what he got thx :)

Looks like you have a fairly flat foot that is on the thick side with a wide forefoot and average heel. Just going by the photos, I would try a 705, G5 or even a G9, all regular width.

my idea about the insoles was to hopefully support his foot. the support would not allow his arches to flatten his feet out. the ultra G35 fits about 80% of people, so i would try it. and if its too narrow, the ultra g5 would be the wider verison.

Is 10.75 inches long by 4 inches wide really considered wide?

I ordered a pair of custom 709's because I have really wide feet. I am reading about plastic inserts that you put in the skate to make it stiffer. Do you need these plastic inserts in all the time to use the skate??

Question: I have these bumps on the back of my heel and they seem to look like a condition called Haglund's deformity. I ordered custom grafs and they did a foot trace, but that wouldn't help me with a bump on my heel would it?

Yikes....just got it removed on my right foot. 9 weeks later it finally stopped hurting like a mother....
