The top teams can compete with D1, but most would struggle. UNB was close (Tied, or a one goal loss) to one of the better NCAA teams last year in a preseason game. There are some very good players, of AHL caliber there, but there are also some Junior B/C guys too. The stronger teams lack real gamebreakers that the better NCAA teams have, but sometimes they have better depth. It's really a highly varied league.

There was a tournament a while back that would put the Varsity Reds, Aigles Bleus and the Black Bears against eachother and it would be pretty close competition. I have never seen a D1 game from the US but the difference of caliber between the CHL and CIS is huge.

Without question the most underrated league in Canada. The ontario uni teams are the weakest in the country, as most of the ontario players go east to play or west. The thing is, is that the players are all older than NCAA hockey, with on average the starting age being 21. Most of the players are past their NHL hopeful days anf finished their junior careers and looking to end their career on a high note. The vast majority are major junior veterans, with more than 2 years experience. Very high end junior a players and then some pro throwbacks, that opted to go get thier degree. No fight rule applies across the country. What is interesting that the CIS requires visors, as NCAA requires cages.

Ill try and watch the final tonight on Snet.

I went to see the McGill Redmen a couple times this winter, and the calibre is very good, most of those played junior major and decided to get a educatio instead of playing ECHL or UHL.

Sam Bloom of the McGill Redmen, is being closely watched by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

UNB had a foolish season, couldn't pull it off though. Put any NCAA team against them and they'll skate with them for a joke.

Same thing that the Aigles Bleus did last year, just could not pull it off, but Moncton had a sub par tournament last years and we saw that comming. The Reds just played well during the tournament, they just imploded the last game, no one saw that comming. Moncton just were not able to get quality players to replace Yvan Busque who was the MVP last tournament and was thrown out during the final last year. Losing Scott Toner was also a big lost for them, and a good catch for the Cats. They did go out and get Billy Bezeau and Ken Therrien, but those guys are not worthy of replacing a MVP player and an 1st All Star team defencemen.

Yeah, Moncton was there as a 6th seed, and that's where they really belonged this year as Saint Mary's was the best team not at nationals. Brock was brutal. UNB's going to see a few big changes this coming year, a lot of guys are getting pro offers, which says a lot for the small city program.

UdM didn't have the flash this year. They didn't seem to recruit well to replace Toner, and Strozinski not being healthy, and Fournier going pro (I'm sure UNB will have this problem) hurt them. They did a phenomenal job hosting though, represented NB well.

And how abou them Cataracts? haha

Can't confirm this 100 percent, but word is, Rob Hennigar has signed a 2 year NHL contract, first CIS hockey player to be signed out of the league. CIS is getting better.

Some of the guys that played for the Cats this year I played with them about 3 years ago in an Intra-Mural hockey league while I was going at the U de Moncton. The Aigles Bleus will be looking to get two players of this region (considering the players don't get picked up in the ECHL or CHL) Dean Ouellet who is currently captain of the Screaming Eagles and Mathieu Labrie who plays for the Fog Devils and who's sister currently plays for the Aigles Bleus woman's hockey team. Dean did try out for the Tampa Bay Lighthing this season and was one of the first cut, from knowing his brother very well he might get another tryout with TB or another team in the NHL. Minessota was very interested with him and looking to team him up with Sheppard. Mathieu got a tryout with the Habs and was one of the later cuts. Having the chance to be part of the media delegation, for the student paper, at the first tournament in Moncton last year, I did like the experience alot and everything was very well done.

It might be. I think it was Vancouver and St. Louis who had scouts at the tourny that I know of. I read somewhere that the St. Louis scout said that trip to the tournament was more than worth it. Edit- Darryl Boyce who played for UNB lastyear signed with the Marlies and got called up for a game before getting hurt.

Edit

Denz- Who were they, Gervais and Michaud, they did beat your team though didn't they haha? I was reading up on Labrie somewhere, he said if he can't get into the AHL, he's going to go to school. I can't believe Ouellet hasn't gotten anywheres, he's posted some really good numbers the past few years in the Q. They won't hurt UdM. I keep thinking UNB's going to get weaker, but they had 10 some odd rookies in the line up this year, but we do recruit hard. I do wish we had more NBer's, but with the maritime invasion to the Q right now, I can see a change in the future. Interesting note, UNB's coach, his son plays for the Fog Devils.

Michaud was one of them, Rico Proux also and one of the brothers that I can't remember their family name. Yeah St-Jacques is my home team, I have only been to one game this year, my first in more than 3 or 4 years. I will see where the physical shape is in august and I might give the Ambassadeur's camp a go. I have 2 months off this summer cause I work in schools, so I wanna do plenty of Mountain Bike, Running and go to the gym. Yeah, Dean did very good the last 2 years. I haven't talked to his brother in about 3 months so I have no clue if he has had a couple of calls from the pros but considering his leadership and the unnexpected season CB has had, I would not be surprised if he did.
