Vapor XXX repairs

Recommended Posts

The top inner eyelet on both skates fell out and ripped through part of the boot, shredding the boot entirely on my right skate. I had gone through a few repairs and all of them failed, and eventually moved onto ONE90's, a new pair of XXX's and a pair of G35's, but nothing felt as perfect on my foot as my initial XXX's did.

After the skates sat in my room this whole season I took them to one of the two authentic bespoke shoemakers in America, who happens to have a local workshop. He said he wouldn't be able to sew through the boot as the stiffeners could destroy his machine. But after considering the skate he said he'd be able to drill through the boot and put what is essentially a lace lock as my top eyelet. What are the potential drawbacks to this?

AS a LHS worker, I'd say give it a try. If the eyelets have ripped almost through the leather, you only have one other alternative and that is buy new skates.

I've had the XXX's, and now own the XXXX's and find that they are just about the same!

When I posted I had already dropped my skates off for the work, and on the right skate it did rip entirely through the boot.

It's interesting you say that NJD because I found a distinct difference between even my first pair of XXX's and the next; which I believe were made after NBH had switched factories.

Thanks I'll check that out if this doesn't work out. The example shown is almost exactly what my problem originated as until the boot was entirely ripped through.

Really not sure if anyone cares, but for those who might end up in similar situations, I decided to send my skates to George's. So far I've had nothing but a great experience with them; fast, thorough email responses and very engaging phone conversations.

I expect to get my skates back sometime next week, maybe I'll toss up some before and after pics.

I know the original Vapor line(single digits) all had that problem. I had it in my Vapor 8s and they fixed the problem and had a second release.
