Skate fitting question

Recommended Posts

I was hoping someone who has used the RBK 9k skate for an extended period of time could give me some advice on the effectiveness of the pump. I've got a skinny heel and a wide forefoot - I was wondering whether the pump would be able to compensate for the size of my heel. I tried the skates on but it's hard to tell from just walking in the store how they will work for me on the ice.

If you've had a similar issue I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks.

They were the runner up skate in our last search for skates... to solve a wide foot, narrow heel fit problem.

I know several people who have them and are very happy with them. They've been positively reviewed here - have you read those reviews yet?

It may or may not. I have a pair where the pump has failed. The skate still performs, but the heel is a little loose.

Seems to be PP. I had a pair of 9ks and in the very first game (just had a 30min practice before) the pump broke and the air floated right out after pumping and my heel was SO sloppy, i couldnt skate. And i actually got a big heel. Just to complete the story, i returned the skates and got a refund. Custom S15 skates are a pleasure right now.

How about the 8k from the year before while we are on this topic...is there enough padding to lock down a normal sized heel even without the pump technology? Looking at picking up a new pair of 8ks from a fellow MSHer...

Don't think it is your best option.

Have you tried a Graf 735...built for a wide forefoot and a skinny heel. Comes in three widths (narrow, reg and wide).

Vapor XXXX's also generally fit this description, come in two widths.

If the discrepancy between your forefoot and heel is extreme, go custom.

Don't buy them if they don't fit. The pump is only good for ensuring a bit more of comfort, not fixing an improper fit. If you buy them hoping for the pump to make up for a problem with the heel you will be disappointed in the long run.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice. I would say that they fit - I was just worried that the effectiveness of the pump would wear after time (as the skate packs out).

I'm definitely going to check out the Grafs mentioned and have already tried on the Vapor XXXX but was looking for something a bit more comfortable.

Cheers

the narrow heel wide forefoot fit you described is the fit of the easton stealth series. i have that similar foot shape as i am in easton stealths, but i have a pair of rbk 6k's for inline and my heel lifts, and it bothers me so much

dont force a boot on yourself

if rbk made a skate with a normal or a narrower heel they would get way more comsumers with wide forefoot and narrow heel...

I tried on the Stealth today on the advice from the thread... a perfect fit. The way the heel/ankle lock in is set up gave me the feeling I've been looking for. The only turn off is the fact that putting a LS2 holder on it would void the warranty. I've also broken so many OPS sticks that I dont totally trust a skate made completely out of composite. Are my concerns unfounded? I read the reviews here on the S15 and durability doesnt seem to be an issue.

if you dont want to spend so much you can just go down a step to the S11. Its not a bad skate for the moeny.. and yes the s15 have issues still with the toe cap, glue, stitching, etc.

What reviews have you been reading? Also, why not give the Easton holder a try? There hasn't been many complaints with those.

I read the review that JR wrote in the review section.

Do a search...there have been a number of threads discussing the S15 and its' lack of durability.

Any honest lhs will also tell you that they are falling apart.
