Graf modification

Recommended Posts

I am hoping some people can ease my fears of modifying an expensive skate. I absolutely LOVE my Graf Supra 709 skates for ice hockey; so much in fact, that I am thinking about buying a second pair to modify for roller hockey.

I have a pair of uncomfortable Mission Inline skates with a Penetrator chassis, which I would put on the Graf's. The thing that worries me is that it looks as if the new rivet holes would be pretty close to the existing holes on the Graf's; would there be any risk of the boot splitting or cracking under the pressure of skating with those holes being so close together?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm sorry, I accidently posted this as a new topic. I meant to put it in the skate mod thread.

Dont worry about it, its fine. Th bottom of some of my skates look like swiss cheese.

Thanks! I hope you are right, I am a big guy who weighs 225lbs - so my skates are under a lot of pressure as is.

Is there any chance of seeing a photo of your swiss cheese holes on the bottom of your skates? Just curious.

With extra holes, you may run the risk of having sweat from your feet drip down onto your wheels, which will lead to some suprise wipeouts. If you throw some expoxy in them like Hoffer suggested, it will take care of that.

Well, I dropped my skates off at the shop to do the modification; I will post photos as soon as I get them back.

Thanks to everyone who added some advice!

Go Pens!!!

PS - If anyone is interested in buying the Mission boots cheap, let me know. They are a VERY lightly worn pair of Mission Proto VI's (Size 8.5). Yes that is a 2001 model skate, but I got them brand new recently and only skated on them a handful of times; they are too narrow for me - I'll sell them cheap.
