Zoos are notorious havens for animal exploitation/cruelty.

depends on the zoo and funding, true some zoos have animals in scary small and dirty cages others have large inclosures that try to accommodate animals that simulate native habitat. The question: is the institution itself cruel by showing animals to people?

ps I think I may be entering dangerous waters here of political and ethical issues and ask people to not judge me or people that reply too harshly, if this topic goes too far I ask mods to lock it.

Not a huge fan of animal cruelty.

I'll second that, thats not funny at all and yes that IS animal cruelty.I'm really glad to see quite a few board members share my point of view on this, its cruel and exploitive.IMO.

I wonder how they get the skates on the thing probably a lot of pain, unless they just inject him with something to knock him out for a bit. But when you look at the bear he looks happy out there skating around.

probably the same way as you dress anybody one foot at a time by telling the bear to lift the leg and hold it then put on skate repeat for the other leg...

Super star ,No offence, but you have a very naive and not unusual idea of animal cruelty and exploitation in zoo's and the entertainment industry ( circuses are possibly one of the worst and most cruel examples of animal mistreatment and exploitation around ) perhaps you should do some reading on these subjects before dismissing them as acceptable or ok.

You very much are entering into some merky waters but dare I say more of the ehtical and Moral kind.Again , try to do some reading and then draw some well informed opinions.I think you'll be shocked what you find out.

If you are in anyway interested I would be happy to send you some links to articles on these subjects, just PM me. :)

your are right there are 1000s of articles about it, some are good and logical others are written in all caps with lots of exclamation marks, others show video clips of some gruesome stuff which is quite legal under the current law. We'll see how the court trial of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is decided that might change the law, will take about 5 more years to sort out the legal stuff. In the end it all comes down to one fundamental thing we as people like to see the end product and not how its made because is you start thinking about then almost 100% of everything that people do is cruel, from pet shops to farms that grow animals that I later eat as steaks. We even directly contributing, I for one set killing traps for small mammals of family Muridae and they have feelings too. And don't get me started about using pesticides to solve my ant problems as well as not recycling enough - killing the rain forest. Reality kind of sucks if you start thinking about it too much. :(

I have no idea why, but I feel bad for the bear. They are not hurting him or anything but it just seems wrong.

Lions and Elephants in a circus I don't seem to have a huge problem with but this is just wrong for some odd reason.

The bear definitely needs a boot with more depth. I recommend a custom 709. Also he obviously, needs more forward pitch, and a shallower hollow.

The really cruel thing, is that he is clearly hampered by the wrong profile. How is he supposed to keep up with only 9' radius. You can see from the video how his stride is choppy; I think that he needs at least 10'/12' combinations radius.

JR, OTG, comments ?

That was going to be my recommendation but you beat me to it. Some power skating lessons might serve him/her well too... Would a polar bear be more well suited for the ice? haha
