Puck location for offside slapshot?

Recommended Posts

No no, not offsides, but offside  Right handed slapshot from the left side of the ice.

.....This isn't anything too crazy, and you ALL have seen this, I just don't know what to call it. I'm a right hand shot. When I'm on the left side of the ice, breaking in with speed, I'll shift my weight and open up my stance moving my right (net side) foot so that I'm essentially skating backwards on my right foot. Have I lost anyone yet? Now we/you/I simply reshift my weight, rotate my hips and come through with booming slaphot. Like I said, fairly common play.

I can do this at full speed -without the puck. To date, I've not actually ever pulled this off in a game, and only rarely can do it in stick and puck. I just don't know where to put the puck!!!! It's either too far or too close, or moving the wrong direction etc. etc. etc.!!!

I'm a decent player, and currently play B and C men's league. I know what I can and can't do, and do well to play within my limits. ...but this ONE skill, this ONE shot, I must learn!!!!! :P

Anyone have any advice???

I contact it a little behind the front (left for you) foot and a little bit to the inside of my body, and as I shoot I slide / stop on that foot. It can be done going backwards or forwards, but going forwards you really have to turn the toe of your front (left for you) foot in.

Start practicing the move at a really slow pace, then eventually build up the speed. It might take weeks or even months but you'll get there eventually. Practice this for 10 mins each time you are on the rink and then move on. As long as you are consistent and determined you'll get it.
