My friend is having a problem with his right skate. no matter how many times he gets his skate sharpened hi has a problem with his inside edge. he has canged his hollow a little bit and that helps a bit but it still gives out a bit when pushing off. he is a strong skater and notices the small things. is it possible he has some bend steel? to the eye the blade seems fine and there are no chips out of it. He seems to think that it is just bent enough but not visible to the eye? is this possible?

Thanks Sid

The steel can be easily checked with a straight-edge or the flat of a level - or even just lining up the steel of the right skate from the left (which I gather is still fine).

As schrempsky said, it could also be the holder alignment, or, if they're older skates, it could be that the Cobra holder has in fact warped over time. If it's a UL-3000, they apparently started rigid as hell but softened over time due to water retention.

Yeah, check the holder allignment. My XXX's did the same thing when i got them 2 years ago, everyone said "oh the blade's bent, i'll just straighten it." They'd straighten a perfectly straight blade and then charge me $10 for the job they did. After like, the 3rd time I took them to a guy who knew what he was doing and he set me up with a new pair (skates were still under warrany)

a coach at my rink skates in graf 703s and purposely sharpens his own skates off level because his holders are bent. i sharpened them once perfectly, using blademaster's level to be 100% sure, and he came back saying one of his edges was high. I offered to put new holders on for him and he refuses, because he has his system that works
